TRANSCRIPT
Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is a supportive Christ-centred community, equipping each student for life.
Message from the Principal
“If parents want to give their children a gift, the best
thing they can do is to teach their children to love
challenges, be intrigued by mistakes, enjoy effort and
keep on learning. That way, their children don’t have
to be slaves of praise. They will have a lifelong way to
build and repair their own confidence.”
Carol S. Dweck (author of Mindset which the staff are reading)
This week we welcome Mr Julian Helbig to WLPS as he teaches in the
2/3 Fladrich class on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for the next
3 weeks. Julian is taking time off of his job as Deputy Principal at
Immanuel Lutheran School Gawler to complete his Masters in
Education, as well as taking the opportunity to teach in some other
Lutheran schools. We know that this will be a mutually beneficial
time of learning as the staff gain as much from Julian as he will gain
from us through this experience.
This week is also an exciting time as we host the Variety Children's
Charity on Tuesday from 12-3pm. All of the Waikerie community
have been invited to share lunch with us. I have been so
appreciative of the wider Waikerie community and enjoyed the
way they have been willing to contribute to the catering effort. I
think the opportunity to host this day has been invaluable as an
opportunity to open our school up to the wider Waikerie community.
Thanks to members of our school community that have been
involved in preparations for the day.
Blessings on your week,
Adam Borgas

issue of Scholastic Book Club are due

Long Service Leave As mentioned in the Message from the
Principal, whilst Mr Fladrich is on Long
Service leave for the next 3 weeks, Mrs
Sandie Canney will be taking the class
on Monday and Friday and Mr Julian
Helbig will take the class Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday.
Book Week Theme for 2015 Book Week is “Books
Light up our World”. Students are

approximately 40-50 minutes a session.

you please do so by this Thursday, 6th August.
Working Bee On Saturday, those that were
looking to join the working bee
happily watched the rain fall
down! We will try again this
weekend on Saturday, 8th August.
Please bring along a shovel, mattock and
digging implements as we are planning to
move some irrigation and lay a crusher dust
path along the Northern fence as a part of our
cross country track.
Tuesday - Variety Bash Day Tomorrow we have the Variety Bash
attending WLPS! Could I please ask
school parents to park along
McCutcheon Street so that our
visitors can utilise the car park. The
Variety Bash cars will be entering the school
property from McCutcheon Street, moving over
the lawned area and exiting the school property
via the car park (a loop around the hall).
Change of Address for WLPS! After 35 Years of owning the street
address 16 McCutcheon Street,
WLPS is please to advise that we are
changing our street address to
Number 6 McIntosh Street. The
primary reason for this change is so
that traffic directed to our physical
school address via Google maps or other
navigational tools lead our visitors to the school
car park.
In our Master Planning process, we have
identified and formalised that the McIntosh
Street frontage is a natural ‘front gate’ for our
school (as opposed to the narrow McCutcheon
Street road frontage).

Student of the Week Awards
Teaching children about our Skills: Communication, Research, Social, Thinking and Self
Management skills provides them with the tool kit for successfully relating with others. As a way of
celebrating the demonstration of these skills by students, staff have elected these students this
week.
Year 6/7 Class
Self Management Skills - Jesse Thiele. Jesse has made some excellent
choices in regards to his independent reading. Well done Jesse for
striving to read more often and prioritising your learning!
Communication Skills - Katie Shugg. Katie has communicated her
thoughts about animal cruelty in-depth in her Exhibition journal. Well
done Katie for thinking deeply about this issue.
Year 4/5
Thinking Skills - Chloe Nitschke. Chloe took risks in Maths to share her
thoughts about how she would order decimals and why so that we
could all learn. Thanks for sharing Chloe!
Communication Skills - Haylee Gore. Haylee worked hard to practise last
week making sure that the verbal communication of her Unit of Inquiry
presentation was clearly and effectively spoken. Great job!

James put into presenting his Spelling homework this week! All his words
were neatly glued in, in straight lines and labelled correctly. Great work!

great knowledge about money. He recorded lots of information about
money in his prior knowledge brainstorm. Well done William!

when reading. She was able to do some fantastic thinking during her
reading time and express some of her thinking to the class. Well done
Alicia!
Research Skills - Levi Hull. Levi showed research skills during Maths when
exploring different shapes using a geoboard. He was able to find some
interesting shapes with lots of sides and corners and recorded it
accurately. Great investigation Levi!

identify new high frequency words in her readers. She is also able to
identify many features on the THRASS Chart. Great work Hannah!

wonderings about homes. When walking around town to observe
homes, Sam collected photos for use in our current Unit of Inquiry.
