This message comes to you from the Minority Scholars
Program. Did you know that Montgomery County
Public Schools had the highest graduation rate in the
state of Maryland for the Class of 2014? Eighty-nine
percent of MCPS students graduated. Those are good
numbers, but when you compare the graduation rates
of African American and Latino students, they are not
keeping pace. African American Students graduated
at a rate of eighty-six percent.
Latino students graduated at a rate of eighty
percent. Those are not awful numbers, but we can
do better. We want to close the achievement gap in
Montgomery County, but it starts with you. Each of
us has to take responsibility for making education
our priority. We have to take school and graduation
seriously. Everyone is always talking about how to
fix to achievement gap, but we believe it starts with
us, the students. This a problem that we can help fix
by being aware of it and by believing we are
capable.

3 schools. To select the schools, seniors need to
log into Family Connection and complete the
survey on the About Me tab.
The survey is only open from January 30 to
February 13. Students will need to complete
the applications for those schools and print out
copies of their test scores to take with them to
the fair. No recommendations are needed and
application fees are waived. See your
counselor or Mrs. Prochnow for more info.
Attention sophomores, the
ACES application deadline is
drawing near. Students who

academies. Interested students should stop
by the College/Career Center to pick up an
application. Return completed applications to Mrs. Prochnow no later than February 27.

out on money for college. Submit your
