Value Proposition of RIM Plus 2015 - 2016
• Become more thematically focused on concrete areas of Advanced Manufacturing (ADMA).
• Explore new business opportunities. • Develop partnerships to deliver results. • Linking up regional competences to strategic partnerships at the
EU level. • Making the process more dynamic. • Share the lessons learned to feed into the preparation of future
programmes.
About the RIM Plus Workshops
• Explore the project’s options to focus on concrete thematic areas of ADMA.
• Themes of 1st workshop: industry 4.0 and smart production, advanced materials and bio-based economy.
• Mapping advanced manufacturing networks. • Collect expression of interests / additional information for
subsequent steps in the process of defining the thematic focus. • Led by a group of regions, workshops should provide the basis for
in-depth interaction on ADMA activities in a particular area.

A Guiding Definition
Advanced Manufacturing’ is a family of activities that: • make use of cutting edge materials and emerging capabilities enabled by the
physical and biological sciences, for example nanotechnology, chemistry, and biology , and/or
• depend on the use and coordination of information, automation, computation, software, sensing, and networking.
US PCAST
Advanced manufacturing processes • with a focus on the development of new methods of producing new
products (new materials, nano- or micro-enabled processes, laser processing, 3-D printing/additive manufacturing etc.)
Adaptive and smart manufacturing systems • with a main focus on the new methods to coordinate production
processes (industry 4.0, innovative measurement/control technology, computing, internet of things etc.)
