Lambert’s Castle car park DT6 6NN / GRID REF: SY366988 3 miles / 1-2 hours From the car park walk through the gate onto Lambert’s Hill. 1. Follow the path straight ahead, which follows the tree line on your left, towards the banks of the hill fort. W 2. alk through the hill fort entrance (gap in the bank) and continue, keeping to the east side of the hill fort. W 3. alk through the gap in the hedge bank and carry straight on. A 4. head is a large split beech stump. Walk until you see a fence in front, then bear right and follow the path down into the ditch of the hill fort. C 5. ontinue on the path until you arrive almost back to the hill fort entrance, and then cut through the gap in the bank on your left. Carry straight on above the slope. F 6. ollow straight down the slope until you come to a gate. Go through it and straight on, onto the road. Take the second turn on your right, signed Fishpond Bottom and follow the road straight on. S 7. top at the church on your left for the view from Image 1: Fishpond Bottom by Lucien Pissarro. Bear 8. right onto the footpath, just after ‘April Cottage’. Follow the path up the hill. A 9. t the top of the hill bear to your right and follow across the top of the hill. Pick up a stile in the hedge line on your left, where you will access the bridleway. Turn right and walk until you reach the road. (You could turn right down this road down this road and see, on the right, the house in Image 2: High View, Fishpond, 1915 by Lucien Pissarro.) A 10. t the road, turn left then through a kissing gate on the right. Follow the footpath straight across until you reach the car park track where you bear right to arrive back to the start. WALK 1 Lambert’s Castle to Fishpond Bottom IF YOU’RE SHORT ON TIME... This walk gives a feel for the setting of many Pissaro’s paintings as many of the views are now obscured by tree growth.
