Overcoming Temptation
Temptation occurs when a person’s will is tested to see whether he will
sin or not.
What is temptation ?
I John 2: 15 -161. Lust of the flesh – physical gratification2. Lust of the eye – things that appeals to
the eye3. Pride of Life – things one takes pride in
e.g career, wealth , fame.
Areas of temptation
James 1 : 14 -15But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and
enticed. Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin ,
when it is full grown , brings forth death.
Danger of constant yielding to temptation : Spiritual death
1. Confession – 1 John 1 : 92. Repentance* – Luke 3:8 a
* Repentance is not just feeling remorseful
but a commitment not to sin again
How to restore our relationship with God ?
1. Kept God’s word in one’s heart –Psalm 119:11
2. Flee - 2 Tim 2 : 223. Guard thought life4. Watch and pray5. Serve the Lord and avoid idle time and
activities6. Seek fellowship of the godly7. Seek help from godly members
How to overcome temptation ?
James 1:12Blessed is the man who endures temptation ; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
Concluding verse
