Walker MS Viking View A Newsletter for the Walker Middle School and Business Community October has been an exciting month full of celebrations and expectations. We have honored Breast Cancer Awareness each week by wearing pink and we are currently involved in Red Ribbon Week and we are pledging to be DRUG FREE!! . Report cards have been delayed by one day and will be coming home with your student on Tuesday, October 29. Please ask your student for the copy. If you have any questions or need to schedule a parent conference, please call the school at 407-858-3210. Many of our students need to take advantage of free tutoring opportunities provided by our school. Please see the schedule for morning and Saturday tutoring later in this newsletter. Parents please speak with your student about two important Code of Conduct issues we are seeing: students in K-8 are required to wear shoes that have a back strap at all times. Slides, flip-flops, backless sandals, etc are not permitted. Many students are wearing Crocs, but are not keeping the backs on the shoes. If a student has Crocs without the back strap, they will be asked to call home and get a change of shoes. The second item to address is responsible social media use. A student posted a negative story on Instagram about another student at our school. This is a serious situation and cannot happen. School discipline will be issued and law enforcement will be involved as needed. Students cannot shame or humiliate others on social media. It is harassment and bullying and will not be allowed. Please monitor your student’s use of social media at all times. The Dance and Band department are selling World’s Finest Chocolate candy bars to help raise funds for clinicians, instruments, uniforms, costumes, and transportation costs. The chocolate bars are $1 each and can be purchased before and after school, at lunch dismissal, and between classes (as long as it does not cause any student to be tardy to class). Every chocolate bar purchased benefits the students and will enhance their experience in these programs. Help us sell them all!!! School pictures will be on October 31. Lifetouch studios will be coming and capturing your child’s photo. Please ask your student for the information flyer he/she received. Online orders will be accepted as well. Information is later in this newsletter. There are several special events listed later in this newsletter. Please make note of the dates. Please continue to support Walker Middle School by ensuring that your child attends school every day. We appreciate you! Mrs. Watson, Principal Walker Middle School
