Sam joined FMRC in January 2000 and became a Director in July 2006. His client facing roles span direct consulting and management training.

In any one year he would be engaged by 50+ firms to assist with strategic planning, partner compensation, equity valuation and succession related issues.

Sam is considered the foremost authority on law firm valuations and would value more law firms than anyone else in Australia. He has developed a robust valuation methodology which calculates an accurate capitalisation rate that assesses the risk profile, cash flow and profitability of the firm.

From a training perspective, Sam is involved in presenting at conferences as well as developing and presenting numerous FMRC programmes.

Prior to joining FMRC Sam’s professional life saw him working at Ernst & Young for four years followed by a stint in London conducting due diligence on businesses listing on the London Stock Exchange whilst working for Smith & Williamson.

In June 2015, Sam was invited to be a principal of Edge International – the leading law firm management

consultancy group.

Jenn Quinn is described by those who know her as a high energy, motivating and engaging trainer, who has a great ability to make time pass quickly with relevant, high impact presentations with something of value for everyone to take away. With a diverse background including the hospitality industry, personal and business coaching, Jenn brings a wealth of social and business experience to her sessions, to create an enjoyable, informative and fun workshop.

John has over 25 years’ banking experience in the UK and New Zealand across a wide range of markets and customer segments.

In 2001, John joined The National Bank Corporate Banking team in Auckland. He moved to Wellington in 2006 when he took on the role of ANZ Regional Director Corporate Banking responsible for the Central Region of New Zealand. He has remained responsible for business in the Central Region since then combining responsibility for Commercial Banking and Agri in his current role. He is also a member of the NZ Commercial & Agri Leadership Team.

John holds a BSC (Hons) in Economics and Accounting from Loughborough University.

— Michele A’Court — Rabia Siddique, BA LLB CSPHumanitarian, Speaker, Author

Winner of “Female Comedian of the Decade” at the 2010 NZ Comedy Guild Awards, Michele A’Court is a full time professional stand-up comedian and freelance writer.

Her work turns up everywhere - on stage, television, radio; in newspapers and magazines - and she is in demand as a comic, an event MC, and also as a social commentator across all media.

Michele’s solo comedy show, “Stuff I Forgot To Tell My Daughter”, was a sold-out hit at the 2013 NZ International Comedy Festival and the 2014 World Buskers Festival.

In 2015, the show became a bestselling book published by Harper Collins, debuting at number one on the Indie Top 20, and sitting cheerfully on the Booksellers Top Ten list for three months.

Her international experience as a stand-up comedian includes work in the United States, Canada, the UK, Australia, Papua New Guinea and East Timor; and she has performed at the Edinburgh, Melbourne, Adelaide and NZ Comedy Festivals. She has been working as an after-dinner speaker, event host and conference MC for more than 20 years.

Michele A’Court appears by arrangement with Celebrity Speakers

Rabia is an Australian criminal and human rights lawyer, retired British Army officer, former terrorism and war crimes prosecutor, international humanitarian, hostage survivor, professional speaker, facilitator, coach and published author.

In 2006 Rabia was awarded a Queen’s commendation for her human rights work in Iraq, in 2009 was the Runner Up for Australian Woman of the Year UK and in 2014 was selected as a Telstra Australia Business Woman of the Year Finalist.

In October 2014 Rabia received a standing ovation from 1700 people at her TEDx talk entitled “Courage Under Fire” where she spoke about the power we all have as individuals to create the change we wish to see in this world. In March 2015 Rabia was nominated for the WA Women Lawyer of the Year Award, was used as a case study at the most recent UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York and was this year named as the Professional Speakers Australia (PSA) Breakthrough Keynote Speaker of the Year.

She has earned an international reputation as a powerful, transformative and unforgettable inspirational/motivational speaker, as well as a committed and passionate human rights advocate, thought leader and philanthropist.

For the past 27 years he has helped law, accounting, engineering and other business advisory firms plan, innovate and grow. 

In addition to heading up Barolsky Advisors, Joel is a Senior Fellow of the University of Melbourne and a former Principal of Beaton Research & Consulting. He is on the Advisory Board of the College of Law’s Centre for Legal Innovation. 

Joel is the lead author of the Thomson Reuters Peer Monitor Report on the Australian legal market.

He is a recognised thought leader evidenced by regular conference keynotes, press mentions and the global reach of his blog, Relationship Capital.

He’s also recently created an iOS pricing app for lawyers called Price High or Low.

Joel has advised over 100 of Australia and Asia’s leading professional service organisations. Around 70% of his clients are repeat clients or come directly from referrals from existing clients. Some of his recent New Zealand clients include Wynn Williams, Chapman Tripp, Hesketh Henry and Beca.

— Christina BryantHesketh Henry

Christina is a partner at Hesketh Henry. Her practice area is civil litigation and arbitration, and she has specialist expertise in professional indemnity insurance, construction and property disputes. An experienced trial lawyer, she represents clients at all levels of the court system. She is an author of LexisNexis Practical Guidance Insurance, and presents regularly on issues arising in the professional services and construction sectors.

Christina joined Hesketh Henry in 2003 after a four year stint in London. She is a member of the firm’s board of management, and is – like most of us – constantly challenged to look at different ways to address the needs of a diversifying workforce and client base. In between running a legal practice and herding partners, she is raising two boys and attempting a world record for the longest-running home renovation project.

— Jared Ormsby Wynn Williams

— Jessica PalmerUniversity of Otago

Jared is the National Managing Partner of Wynn Williams. He is an expert in complex litigation and regularly appears in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. Jared frequently advises General Counsel throughout New Zealand.

He has been recognised as a leading or recommended individual in litigation in the Chambers and Legal 500 legal directories since 2016. Jared is a member of the Trusts Committee of the Canterbury Westland Branch of the NZLS.

Jessica is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Law at Otago University and teaches courses in contract, equity and commercial law. She is a graduate of Auckland and Cambridge.

She was a Judges’ Clerk in the High Court in Auckland and worked in a national corporate law firm. She has published articles and book chapters on issues of equity and restitution and is an author of Equity and Trusts in New Zealand (Butler (ed), 2nd ed, Thomson Brookers, 2009).

Jessica was a member of the reference group assisting the New Zealand Law Commission in its recent Review of the Law of Trusts.

— Helen ScottAnderson Lloyd

Helen is an associate in the Litigation team with a particular focus on matters of insurance, professional ethics and responsibilities and risk management for law firms. Helen is currently assisting with the formation and implementation of polices for law firms around FATCA and the forthcoming AML/CFT changes.

Helen also regularly advises lawyers and insurers on professional indemnity issues and matters before the Standards Committees and Legal Complaints Review Office. The risk management focus of Helen’s practice involves working with lawyers to formulate policies and procedures designed to help minimise the risk of claims against them and also complaint resolution processes.

Helen is currently a member of the AML/CFT advisory group to the Department of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Justice for the implementation of AML/CFT guidelines for law firms.

— Roanne ParkerCalibrate Marketing

Roanne has delivered digital marketing for some NZ’s largest companies for over 15 years. Industry involvement includes past Board Member of the Direct Marketing Association and Chair of the Emarketing Executive, founding contributor to the development of NZ’s UCEM (Spam) Act and regular attendee of local and international digital marketing conferences each year.

Ian is the Commercial Manager for Product Development with Thomson Reuters NZ, and is a qualified barrister and solicitor. He has held a number of positions with Thomson Reuters, including Editor of McGechan on Procedure and Green & Hunt on Arbitration Law & Practice.

He has considerable experience in commissioning new online products, and has most recently has been instrumental in the development of Thomson Reuters’ new suite of Anti-Money Laundering workflow solutions.

Chris is the Account Director – Infinitylaw NZ and has responsibility to strengthen the relationship between firms operating with Infinitylaw and Thomson Reuters, advocating for firms in regards to Infinitylaw development and ensuring new sales.

Having achieved 20 years with Thomson Reuters, Chris offers a unique insight garnered from roles within legal publishing units assisting the transition from paper to CD-Rom to online publishing. More recently Chris has focused on legal software products such as Infinitylaw and Contract Express.

— Jane Pochon AIG

Jane is an admitted solicitor with over 25 years of experience across a range of roles in the professional services sector including law, medical defence and insurance. After leaving the partnership of Tress Cocks & Maddox where she had practised primarily in the areas of health and commercial litigation, Jane moved to in-house roles in both the medical defence and insurance industries. Jane currently works at AIG Insurance as the Regional Manager for Financial Lines Claims, leading a team of 40 professional staff across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. Jane is responsible for the management of claims arising from a suite of commercial insurance products including professional indemnity, directors & officers, crime, employment practices, cyber and management liability.

Jane was also the Founding President of the AIG Australia Women & Allies gender diversity program, and has been recognised with a global award for her contribution to diversity & inclusion at AIG. Jane is a recipient of the Australian Professional Indemnity Group ‘Frank Earl Award’ for her leadership and service to the insurance industry, is a guest lecturer at the University of Sydney on directors & officers insurance and sits as a member of the National Civil Liability Committee of the Insurance Council of Australia.

— Anne HendersonAWS Legal

Heading AWS Legal’s Estates, Wills and Trust team allows Anne Henderson to combine her passions for innovative legal problem solving and working with people. “I enjoy communicating with the client and finding a solution to issues that arise,” she says.

A lawyer at AWS Legal’s head office in Invercargill since 1987, Anne entered Partnership a decade later. Her extensive legal expertise ensures solid structures are put in place to help her clients travel through life.

After four years working in the Commercial Team, she changed focus to oversee the firm’s estates administration practice, where a strong interest in elder law developed, including trusts, asset planning and ownership structures.Anne has also maintained an interest in general property work and conveyancing.

An array of issues face the growing elderly population and Anne’s expertise ensures her clients’ rights are protected. “I make sure I’m up with the play in terms of knowing what’s happening with issues that affect the elderly,” she says. “There are legal documents that older clients should have in place as a bare minimum and many clients simply do not know where to start. Our role is to guide them through that process.”

Liam Malone is currently the world number one in the sport of Bladerunning. His story of hitting rock bottom just a few years ago while at University to turning it all around and winning two gold and a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games is nothing short of incredible.

Liam Malone’s performance at the Games broke the previous Paralympic records held by Oscar Pistorius. In fact, his times on the track make him New Zealand’s second fastest 400m sprinter ever – legs or not. And while these accolades are impressive, the list goes on.
