This week we had the pleasure of hosting a visitor from Leadership Westerville as a part of the “Principal for the Day” program. Leslie Cavin, Asst. Director of Community Engagement at Otterbein University, spent the morning with us, touring our school, visiting our classrooms and experiencing all the fabulousness that we have to offer at Walnut Springs. Our students were welcoming and polite. I could nothave been prouder.
I would also like to congratulate Mr. Markle, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Trimble and Dr. Huelskamp. They are the recipients of a $1000 grant and a $600 grant from the Westerville Education Foundation. Mr. Markle will be utilizing the monies to expand the student outreach program he has started and Mrs. Hill, Mrs. Trimble and Dr. Huelskamp will utilize their monies to enhance learning opportunities within our language arts classrooms.
Next Friday, December 14th , we will hold our Winter/Holiday Dance. The dance will be from 7 – 9 pm and will once again feature DJs from Matt Ryan, Pizza, Soda and an assortment of treats. If you are interested in helping to chaperone please contact Ranee Brown at [email protected].
Thank you for sharing your children with us,
Mrs. Kelly

Imagine a school where the cool kids are the chess team... welcome to I.S. 318 http://www.brooklyncastle.com/ BROOKLYN CASTLE tells the stories of five members of the chess team at a below-the-poverty-line inner city junior high school that has won more national championships than any other in the country. The film follows the challenges these kids face in their personal lives as well as on the chessboard, and is as much about the sting of their losses as it is about the anticipation of their victories.

Several veterans also shared some of their experiences while serving in the military. To conclude the ceremony, the audience participated in a sing-along of patriotic songs. Following the ceremony, Builders Club students had the opportunity to visit with the veterans and personally thank them for their service by presenting each with a gift bag. CHANGE TO STUDENT DROP OFF ON COLLEGE AVE.
To make student drop offs and pickups safer at the walkway into Walnut Spring MS off of College Ave, we have been working with City staff on changes to traffic control in this area. NO STOPPING signs will be posted along the north side of College Ave from Nicole Dr to approximately 250’ west of College Ct to prohibit students being dropped off or picked up along the north side of College Ave and then crossing through traffic to get to the walkway. Student drop offs and pickups should occur at the intersection of College Ave / Nicole Dr where students can safely cross College Ave where there are stop signs to stop traffic. Alternatively, you may drop off or pickup your student along the south side of College Ave by traveling eastbound so they are closer to the walkway. Please make every effort to drop the students off where they can exit curbside, rather than exiting in to the roadway.
