GREETINGS FROM YOUROUTGOING PRESIDENT!

My dear sisters, I want to thank you for the last four years in the Walterboro District UMW! It has been a wonderful experience and I have so many friends all over the Walterboro

District. I am counting on you to continue your good work in missions for Women, children and youth. Keep up the work you do in your units and support our 2013 officers. I plan to see you at our district meetings all through the year.

All officers need to attend the officer’s training at the St. George UMC in January.

Also, continue to save used stamps. If you, or a friend of yours, works in an office that receives mail, get those stamps. Don’t save the metered stamps. If you will bring these each time you attend a district meeting, I will get them to the right person. Start saving stamps from the Christmas cards you get and bring them to the meeting in January!

This is my last Good-by. May the rest of the year be a blessing to you and have a great Christmas experience.

—Elizabeth Duncan, PresidentWalterboro District

GREETINGS FROM YOUR 2013 SECRETARY

Sisters in Christ, thank you for the honor of serving as your district secretary. I am looking forward to helping “Stir the Flame” (our theme this year) about our organization. I got excited when I attended my Officer’s Training and am looking towards passing along everything I learned! One of the things we will be working on is a Walterboro District UMW Directory. Secretaries please bring a current list of your local officers when you attend Officer’s Training on January 19th at St. George UMC.

See you there!—Jody Snow2013 Secetary

FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT’S DESK…

As my term as your Vice President is coming to an end...I would like to thank Elizabeth Duncan and the other members of the Walterboro Mission Team for their help when I called on them. I believe we have all grown under the guidance of Elizabeth. I look forward to serving you and our Lord as President.

We have made progress in several areas, but we have much more work to do in the coming years. The Officers Training on January 19th at St.George UMC is very important. Please fill out the registration form located in this newsletter. It is very hard to plan an event if you don’t know who will be attending. The Walterboro District is doing great things, but we have to fill out reports that can then be turned into the Conference for proper awards.

As I look forward to the coming year, I would encourage anyone that has a problem, concern or event you would like me to attend, please call me at 843-525-1822.

My wish for you and your family for this Christmas season would be a blessed Christmas and Happy New 2013.

—Mary K.CabanissVice President

COMMITTEE ON NOMINATIONS 2013

Season’s greetings Ladies! I hope everyone is celebrating the true meaning of this season, Jesus the Christ! I also hope that every unit is planning to send at least one person for every position to the annual training in January. I am your new Nominations Committee Chairperson, Kimberly Mitchell. I am excited about seeing a representative from each church in our district. I am looking forward to sharing my knowledge with you and learning a few things from all of you as well. So please make sure that you come and fellowship with us in January, let us all learn something together.

—Kimberly MitchellCommittee on Nominations, 2013

SPIRITUAL GROWTH…

Dear Friends:As we hear and read again the beautiful story of Christmas and the message of love that it declares, may it touch our spirits, that we might share it with others. Jesus -

Emmanuel- literally means "God with us," and this is the message of Christmas. Not the gifts or the candles or the cakes or the candies or even the family dinners, but God is with us. God is with us when we are bedded down in the stables of our lives, when we are fleeing from our problems in the middle of the night and on our dusty hard journeys as he was with Mary and Joseph and the baby Jesus. God is with us. Take heart! Christ has come! God is with us and will walk with us every stop of the wayforever. Hear the good news, Merry Christmas!"

Grace and Peace,—June Dyches,

Spiritual Growth Coordinator

2013 VICE PRESIDENTHere we are, Sisters, at the start of

another exciting year of serving ourLord Jesus Christ through the United Methodist Women. As your UMW sister and recently elected to this new position, I greet you with open arms and an open heart. Let me be the first to welcome the ladies who are filling

the position of the Walterboro District UMW. The Conference Officer training was very successful. We had very good attendance. Looking forward to seeing you at our District Officers training, please bring as many officers as you can.

With this new office I would like to accomplish in four years as vice president the spiritual growth through individual and corporate prayer being encouraged, studied and practiced throughout the life of United Methodists. I want to always be aware that I'm working on behalf of women. To be a part of a team that learns together and works cohesively for the good of the organization, keeping in mind always our PURPOSE and vision that we have before us.

Peace and blessings to you all,—Carolyn Winn

2013 Vice President

AND NOW, A WORD FROM YOUR TREASURER

Dear Ladies,Happy Holidays to each of you!

I trust that your Thanksgiving was filled with joy and thankfulness. Personally, I enjoyed Thanksgiving Day with family, friends, and, of course, lots of food. My 84 year-old mother insisted that she wanted to do the entire meal despite an injury to her hand earlier in the month. Thankfully, my brother came home and offered his assistance with the preparation. She made it all except the potato salad. Everything was delicious! Thank God, she attained the goal she had set, and now she says that the Christmas meal is on us (my sisters and me).

The United Methodist Women is nearing the end of another great year, a year of challenges and triumphs, goals and achievements, in spite of setbacks and disappointments. However, through it all, we persevere. We follow the examples of our mothers and grandmothers, and we press on.

Currently, we have a goal to reach. One that we have been working on all year. Now we are in the last phase toward our $25,000 goal. Thus far, we have paid about 55%, which means 45% remains, or approximately $11,250. Dear, dear Ladies, if your unit has not reported any thing this year, please, I need to hear from you now preferably by December 10th. If you have been sending your reports in all year, then you have my deepest appreciation, and please, be reminded that I am waiting for your 4th quarter report. Also, if any unit is able to give “above and beyond” their stated pledge, our District would be most grateful for your efforts. This “extra-mile” giving would be recognized in some way at our annual districtmeeting (pending the approval of our executive committee). I look forward to hearing from you by DECEMBER 10th.

We are United Methodist Women, united in love, united in faith. Let’s put our love and faith inaction. Not only does our district depend on you, but so do those we help. We need your help in reaching our goal. By God’s grace and goodness, I am sure we will.

In appreciation for unity,—Jackie Williams

District Treasurer

COMMUNICATIONS

Hello everyone,

I’d like to thank those of you who sent articles for this newsletter. Your

input is greatly appreciated! In case you were not able to make it to our

Walterboro District Annual meeting last September, here are a few photos and facts.

We had a total of 158 persons present which represented 21 churches present. (It could have been more…but, this was what was reported that day.)

Sand Hill UMC hosted the event and did a fabulous job!

Our speaker, Rev. Bonnie Miller, pastor of the St. Stephen Charge in Charleston gave a wonderful message about “A Journey to Wholeness”.

Sand Hill’s pastor, Rev. Mack C. McClam was very entertaining! A gracious man. We were also honored to have present our new District Superintendent, Rev. Thomas Pearson.

A great time was had by all…see photos below.—Pat Simmons

Footprints in the Snow

One white and wintry Christmas Eve, in a

A young child took a journey, leaving footprints in the snow.

Clutched within her tiny hand she carried a small tattered heart,Fashioned from some scraps of cloth wrapped in the charm of

childlike art.

A manger scene of wood and straw was the child’s destinationHer only Christmas wish to join Christ’s

birthday celebration

She placed her precious handmade gift upon the straw with care,

And before she turned to leave, whispered a simple prayer.

The villagers who stood nearby recall that night with awe

Retelling every detail of the miracle they saw.

A second set of footprints appeared next to the girl’s own

They seemed to walk right by her side, to see her safely home.

But there’s no mystery in the presence of this unseen Friend —

For once God’s touched your heart, you‘ll never walk alone again.
