Term 2 is an important term, as assessment and reporng is completed on each child and school reports are made available to families. This term is also an opportunity to conduct parent teacher interviews, to discuss how children are progressing in their academic and social learning. We hope everyone has an enjoyable term. School athlecs carnival- The school athlecs carnival will be held next Friday 28 th April. The students have been doing lots of preparaon during PE classes and will be ready to compete with enthusiasm for their house teams on the day. ANZAC day- Just a reminder to all parents that next Tuesday 25 th April is a public holiday for ANZAC day, there will be no school on this day. Pupil free day- Some advanced warning to parents that Wednesday 31 st May is a report wring day for staff and it will be a pupil free day at Wangaraa PS. There will be further informaon about an Out of School Program that will be offered on this day. Carevan breakfast club- Carevan Wangaraa is a registered not-for-profit organizaon that ulizes an unpaid commiee plus a team of local volunteers who since February 2011 deliver meals three mes a week in Wangaraa. These wholesome meals are for people (our clients) within our local community who may be either homeless or due to family and financial pressures are struggling to provide food for themselves and oſten their families. Carevan Wangaraa in partnership with Wangaraa Primary School will be providing a breakfast program to the children in our school. This program has commenced this morning in the art room. The 2017 Atudes to Schools Survey We want our students to tell us what they think Our school is conducng a survey to find out what your child thinks of our school. The Atudes to School survey is an annual student survey offered by the Department of Educaon and Training. The survey assists schools in gaining an understanding of students' percepons and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and acvies to improve your child's schooling experience. This year the Atudes to School survey will be conducted at our school between Monday 22 May to Friday 23 June. The survey only takes 20-30 minutes to complete and occurs during your child's class me. Students - Year 4 , Year 5 and 6 at our school will parcipate in the survey. Your child will complete the survey online during school hours using a purpose built secure online survey tool. The survey results will be reported back to the school in Term 3. The Department has updated the survey for 2017 to include important new measures that are known to influence student engagement and performance. From the Principal

Welcome back to term 2- The staff at Wangaratta Primary School would like to warmly welcome all our families back to term 2. Music

On Wednesday, the grade 5/6 students were visited by teachers from Wangaratta High School. They enjoyed a demonstration of concert band instruments and were encouraged to take up the opportunity to join the Wangaratta combined Primary Schools concert Band program. Please see flyer in this newsletter for details.

Abby 3/4D—for making a huge effort and improvement in general and in reading in particular. Top job Abby! Hunter 3/4L—for showing excellent persistence in his school work and being an engaged member of 3/4L. Zarah 5/6L—for her ongoing efforts and help in the class. Ella 5/6C—for her kind and caring nature, showing confidence and staying positive. Lua FL—congratulations on being a polite and reliable friend. Tayla FH—for being a good friend who is always sharing and helping others. Amelia 1/2R—for always showing a positive attitude to other class members and toward her learning. Any interested students and parents are invited to join Wangaratta Primary School at the ANZAC Day parade on Tuesday.

Wear: School uniform Relatives are asked to wear war medals on the right side of their chest. Students will need to stay with teachers after the ceremony and wait for parents to collect them. RSL Badges for ANZAC Day are available to purchase from the school office until Monday, 24 April.

National Volunteer Week

National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. Come and enjoy a morning tea to celebrate and recognise YOU, the volunteers from across the numerous organisations within Rural City of Wangaratta.

Just a few quick reminders of things coming up this term……… May 2—Senior guitar will be on at recess. Band will be on at lunchtime. May 9—Junior Guitar will be on at recess. Choir will be on at lunchtime. May 11—There will be no band, choir or guitar lessons on this day. May 12—The choir will be performing at the closing of the Heritage Festival at the Wangaratta Library at 5.30pm—please come along and support them if you can. May 24—The choir are performing for the senior citizens. They will leave school at 1.45pm and will miss assembly that day. June 29—There will be no band, choir or guitar lessons on this day. Great workshop on Offer for Children during the Across the Arts Forum May 7 Have fun with ARIA award winning Mic Conway as he shows you, step by step how to easily MAKE and PLAY lots of fantastic musical instruments from around the house. From the rubber glove bassoon to gum leaf, drinking straw flute, tin can banjo and lots more—there’s loads of fun and then form a “junk band” with Mic at the end. There is also a workshop for adults. Contact us on 5721 2125 2018 Seal (Select Entry Accelerated Learning) Program Applications Now Open Current Grade 6 students are invited to apply for our Year 7 intake in 2018. The Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) program attracts some of the brightest regional students who move through accelerated curriculum as a separate class group. This provides for a faster paced curriculum which is non repetitive, gives students an opportunity to work with more complex and abstract course material, and provides an adaptive and challenging learning environment where students can work collaboratively with peers of a similar ability. Applications are available from Wangaratta High School and the school website. Applications Close—Friday, 5 May Testing Date—Saturday 13 May 9am-12pm at WHS Victorian Premiers Reading Challenge The 2017 Reading Challenge has now opened. We would encourage all students to participate in this challenge. For students from Prep to Year 2 the challenge is to read or experience 30 books. For students in Years 3-6 the challenge is to read 15 books. Students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate of achievement, and have the opportunity to see their name on an online honour roll. Students who register through our school will have a nominated day that they could wear a casual shirt and again when they have successfully completed the Challenge. Students will also receive points for their house upon registering and completing the Challenge. Registration forms are available from the school office. Pangerang House—Bullying Workshop for Parents When: Monday, 8 May Time: 7pm-9pm Cost: $10 This 2 hour session will talk about what bullying is and how you can tell if this is happening. The session will discuss resilience and the ability to bounce back from disappointment and hard times and helping children to manage their emotions and build their confidence. Wangaratta Rangers Baseball Is your child interested in baseball? Is he or she aged between 8 and 11? The Wangaratta Rangers Baseball teams are holding FREE clinics for both boys and girls to teach them how to play Baseball with the chance of forming an Under 12’s team to go to Bendigo on the 29 and 320 August to represent the North East Baseball Association. Anyone in this age group is welcome to attend these clinics which are held each Saturday afternoon from 3pm-4.30pm at the baseball grounds at Targoora Park, Murdoch road, Wangaratta.
