WANNEROO SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB

SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING

TO BE HELD SUNDAY 2nd APRIL 2017

IN THE CLUB ROOMS AT 9.30AM

Single agenda item: The Clubs current financial status.

At a Special Committee Meeting on the 31st January 2017, the subject of the Club’s current Line of Credit and Mortgage payments were discussed at length.

Specifically, several committee members were of the opinion that paying off both debts would result in the Club being in a better financial position.

As this is a major decision which affects all Club members, it was decided that a Special General Meeting be called of all members to consider sell-ing one of the houses that the Club has.

If this decision is supported by the membership, it would help to alleviate the current cash flow of the Club and enable the Committee to put in place a realistic budget for the following years.

No business other than that set out in the notice convening the meeting shall be transacted at the special general meeting.

Ladies Bowls Report 13/3/17

The Pennant windup dinner on Tuesday 7th March was a great success, with all the Ladies thoroughly

enjoying the music by PJ and the delicious meal catered by our Club caterers.

Div 2 Blue team finished on top (to the surprise of everyone), so play for the Pennant flag, and also have

been promoted to Div 1. Well done Ladies!!

Div 1 Green North finished third and was eligible to make a challenge for the next division, but had to forfeit

due to a shortage of players.

Div 3 Green finished second, so have the chance to make a challenge to go up to 2nd division.

Well done to the Wanneroo Lady Bowlers who have played so well this year to get where they have, and

thanks must also go to the Selection Committee for the great work they have done throughout the Pennant

season.

Don’t forget, Ladies, positions on all the Committees will be vacant and need to be filled before the Bowls

AGM, so start thinking about how you can help the club to go on to bigger and better things next season.

Also, soup and sweets will be starting early May, so be prepared to put your name down to provide the soup

or sweet on any one day.

Cheers,

BOWLS REPORT

In about 3 weeks the men’s summer pennant season will be finishing, some of the divisions may be involved in

some finals or play offs. As mentioned in previous newsletters, teams results have been mixed during the year,

therefore the next couple of games will be important to their final position.

With the ladies having completed their season proper, most are now involved in finals play offs. It’s been a difficult

year for the selectors due to a number of reasons trying to find players to field a team during the year. All the best

to the teams and ladies involved in the finals.

Bowls presentation night is scheduled for Saturday April 22nd please note this on your social calendar and come

along and celebrate with your fellow bowls members. A 3 course menu is currently being prepared and when

finalised, a letter with the menu attached for your selection will be sent out to all members prior to end of March.

A reminder; our Bowls Annual General Meeting is fast approaching Sunday April 23rd commencing 9am, please

give consideration to stepping up and assisting with the Bowls operations. Some positions currently filled by

members have indicated they will not be seeking re-election, particularly the Treasurers position, as Chris

Buchholz stated at the last AGM he will not be continuing so please step up and support your Club.

Your current committee has been working over the season with Bowls Australia representative Clive Adams,

attending local schools coaching and promoting lawn bowls with the aim of encouraging juniors to take up bowls.

This programme hopefully will not only have juniors take up the sport but also encourage their parents to boost

participation in our great sport.

I would like to thank the members that have volunteered and undertaken coaching accreditation so we can run this

programme throughout the year. The programme is called Junior Jack Attack and is coordinated through Clive

Adams and Bowls Australia. Funding for the equipment which is open to all local schools as we need the younger

generation to take up this sport.

With myself being part of this programme I would like to thank Gary Scorer particularly, who has done a lot of work

with Clive to get this up and running but also Pat McGinn, Don Charles and Pat Boardman who have given their

time with the coaching programme.

The next initiative underway needs to be followed up by the incoming committee, it’s the introduction of

Community/Corporate Bowls next season. Discussions and plans are underway, however we need volunteers to

help run this so please consider assisting the committee.
