NERVE 2019... Last chance to get your application in!

This is our final callout for NERVE 2019 applications. We want to see your scriptor treatment on our desks by 4pm, Monday August 5! This opportunity is amust for any and all upcoming filmmakers and screen creatives.

30 films have been produced through WideAngle's annual production initiative since2008. Collectively these films havescreened at over 300 national andinternational film festivals and more thanthree quarters of the writers, directors andproducers have received further financialsupport from Screen Tasmania/ScreenAustralia.

short films will be produced through Nerve 2019 – and this is your chance to beselected.

NERVE 2019 is delivered by Wide Angle Tasmania for Tasmanian filmmakers. Ifselected, you’ll have an experienced filmmaker mentor you throughout - fromhoning your story through to distribution. You’ll receive $3,000 cash to fund theproduction of a short film (3 – 7minutes) that will play well to festival audiences. You’ll also receive access to equipment, facilities, insurances and aprofessional colour grade and sound mix… and we’ll launch your film at a galaindustry event.

Mental Health & Wellbeing in the Creative Workforce | Aug 5

Limited spaces left - please contact us tosecure your spot!Wide Angle Tasmania invites producers andemployers in the creative sector to join usfor a free workshop that explores our role inproviding environments that promote

mental health, well-being and resilience amongst creative practitioners. Thisintroductory 90 minute workshop will provide a shared language around mentalhealth to set the stage for our sector to work towards creating mentally healthyand supportive workplaces. Clare Pearson – Executive Officer of OzHelpTasmania (and Raw Nerve director of ‘Knit One’) will facilitate the workshop.

Those who attend the Mental Health andWellbeing forum on August 5 or anyonewho is a WAT member is eligible to applyfor a fee-free place in the Standard mentalhealth first aid course. The 12-hourStandard Mental Health First Aid courseteaches people (18 years and over) how tooffer initial support to adults who aredeveloping a mental health problem,experiencing a worsening of an existingmental health problem, or who are

experiencing a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help isreceived or the crisis resolves. The course curriculum is evidence-based, asinformed by the MHFA guidelines.Course Locations and dates * Hobart – October 7 & 8 * Launceston - October 1 & 2 * Ulverstone - October 29 & 30

Join us to celebrate the achievements ofthe most recent graduates of EndGame: Heidi Bedloe, Rebecca Thomson,Jane Hamilton Foster, Darran Petty, JeffKirkland, Kaja Piatek and TaraBufton. Seven filmmakers were selected to

participate in a 3 month programme of goal-setting, peer support, coachingand reflection designed to transform their screen dream into action. Threemonths on they are ready to share their progress at our showcase event.

The Washington Residency providesTasmanian screen practitioners with theopportunity to concentrate on their screenproject or screen business for a period ofbetween one and three months. This “gift oftime” allows filmmakers to work withoutdistraction to break new ground andprogress their screen venture. The

Washington Residency provides a home base, resources and facilities forindividuals or teams of screen practitioners. What’s on offer: * Free office space at 6 Washington Street (includes electricity, water andwifi). * Free access to the studio/cinema, meeting room, common areas and WATFilm Kit (negotiated at application)

THREAD - Launch & Fundraiser | 7pm August 25

THREAD is a series of 5 short films with interweaving storylines about therefugee and new arrival experience of living in Hobart. The films are fictional butbased on the real experiences. The participants came from Afghanistan, Nepal,China, Malaysia, The Congo, South Sudan and China and much of the dialogueis in Mandarin, Persian and Nepali. Funds raised from ticket sales will bedonated to The Hobart Human Library and the Tasmanian Refugee LegalService (TRLS). Sketch Comedy Group looking for creatives

We are a new group of about half a dozen diverse people interested indeveloping, performing, directing and producing original sketch comedy for theinternet. We would like to attract more people, especially those from a variety ofage ranges, backgrounds and points of view. The focus will be on “punchingup” (no cheap targets), taking aim at current political, social and culturalstupidities and disasters. Sketches will be from 30 seconds to a few minuteslong. We plan to make it with minimal sets, props etc, using available locations.Then if it works, perhaps some studio a bit further on.
