WJNS had a wonderful turn out

for our first Ohana Fellowship

80 of our Ohana for a wonderful

night of prayer over our students

and staff! There were around 20

students, who had a great time

playing games, worshipping, and

learning about prayer with the

H1 Naz Reach Staff. Thank you

to the PTF for providing us a

wonderful dinner! We look for-

We give a big THANK YOU, to all

who participated in our “Dress

Down to Lift Up” wear orange day!

As a result of the “Dress Down to

Lift Up” donations and the orange

bracelets sale, WJNS raised a total

of $762.72 for the Fujimoto ohana!

We still have bracelets left, so

come by the school office to pur-

chase one!

Update on Hala’i

Thank you for your continued support

for Hala’i Fujimoto and her family, as

she fights her battle with leukemia.

Praise God, she is in remission! Con-

tinue to pray for her as she endures

many more months of chemotherapy

and hospital visits. It has been so nice

to have Hala’i back in school, when

her health and blood counts have per-

mitted.

activities throughout the day. They

have tried to take pictures to share

with Hala’i so she can still be apart

of the class . The preschoolers

were read a book called “The Mon-

key in the

Chair,” explain-

ing the appear-

ance of this new

“student.”

You may have passed by Mrs.

Wong's four-year old class and

seen a stuffed monkey. Many have

been startled, thinking it was a stu-

dent. What is the story of the mon-

key, you ask?

The monkey sits in Hala’i’s seat

when she is unable to be in school.

Mrs. Wong’s class has taken the

monkey to music class and various

The preschoolers had a visit from Dr. Carrie

Sakaino from Kapiolani Medical Center. With

assistance from Hala’i, Dr. Carrie used jars of

candy and water (“Blood Soup”) to demon-

strate the make-up of healthy blood compared

to that of someone with leukemia. For in-

stance, did you know:

Blood is made in your bone marrow, a

squishy material inside your bones

When this blood-making factory works,

properly, we have healthy blood consisting

of 3 important cells.

The Monkey in the Chair

“Dress Down to Lift Up”

-Red blood cells, which give you energy

-White blood cells, which fight away germs

-Platelets, which make your blood clot, or

stick together in order to stop bleeding

Blood of someone with leukemia is full

of leukemic cells, baby white cells that

produce quickly, taking up too much

room for the other healthy cells.

Leukemia literally means “white

blood”

Dr. Carrie shared three important things

to remember. First of all, there is nothing

Hala’i or anyone with leukemia did to

cause it. Secondly, leukemia is NOT conta-

gious. Last of all, Dr. Carrie shared that

the best way Halai’i’s classmates and

friends could help is by practicing good

hygiene. She emphasized the need for

everyone to wash hands, cough or sneeze

into a shirt sleeve , and stay home when

sick.
