Making Course Choices
• Ultimately, students and families make the final course choices
• Counsellors as well as your child’s teachers are there to offer their best suggestions about course choices based on evidence of a student’s achievement, learning style, interests, and learning goals

Alternative Schools
• Students should explore schools of all sizes and program availability• Alternative schools are places where students find their way through learning environments that vary widely and often include self-directed projects, experiential learning, business and entrepreneurial mentorship programs, strong co-op programs and credit recovery opportunities – all while earning OSSD credits.

OYAP SHSM- must be at least 16 years old with 16 credits - begins in Grade 11 year
- happens in Co-op, especially multi-credit - Co-op is a mandatory component, with powerful new capacities for multiple credits
- Accelerated OYAP often has Dual Credit - Dual Credit may serve as Major
- Certifications (PACE; Local 27; W@H) - Certifications required
- proving to be a powerful engagement tool - designed as an engagement tool, SS/L18
- related Technological Education course experience strongly recommended
- Technological Education courses comprise much of the Apprenticeship and Workplace Pathways

Student Eligibility – OYAP
• Have completed 16 credits towards the OSSD;• Be 16 years of age or older;• Be enrolled as full-time students during the program;
Adult students can participate and be registered in OYAP providing that they have not graduated and are working towards acquiring their OSSD, as full-time students.
OYAP happens in Co-op!

• Specific school programs may also include associated dual credits as part of the Co-op program, with possible additional credits granted
• See if continuing job opportunity may be an option with the employer

Only offered at certain schools:• These programs combine intensive multiple–credit
classroom training (which can prepare students for Level 1 training) with co-op and Registration as an OYAP Apprentice
• Students may choose to write exemption exams allowing them to bypass trade school.

Sean Aiken trekked more than 46,000 miles, slept on 55 couches, raised over $20,000 for charity, and tried every job he could: bungee instructor, advertising executive, stock trader, baker, NHL mascot, and more. He frequently speaks about what he learned from his One Week Job experience which led him to develop an international program to empower others to discover their passion.
