RAINER BLOESS

CHRISTOPHER FRASER

Chris Fraser wears many hats. He is a dedicated federal public servant, a father of two teens, a union representative, a volunteer fundraiser and the list goes on. Chris learned the value of hard work and managing a business when he established his own lawn maintenance and snow removal service in his early teens. As his customer base grew, so did his reputation as a trustworthy citizen. In high school, Chris developed into the Ottawa region’s top 400-meter sprinter, representing Glebe high school at the Ontario championships. He continued his track career, participating in several national championships. Chris is a graduate of Algonquin College, achieving a diploma in General Arts & Sciences. He later returned to Algonquin to study public relations. Aside from his work as a public servant, Chris also has a second career at Scotiabankplace, working in the guest services department. Chris has been with Capital Sports and Entertainment (and the former Ogden Entertainment) since the building opened in 1996. Your candidate joined Toastmasters International in 1994 and is the longest serving member of the Portage Toastmasters club in Gatineau, Que. He is currently their Vice President of Education. Your voice in Innes Ward, is the Vice-President of Government Services Union local 70055 and sits on the Health & Safety committee as well as the Union-Management Committee. Chris is also the Vice-President of the Visible Minority Network at Public Works and Government Services Canada.

First elected in 1994, Rainer served two terms on City of Gloucester Council. Rainer was elected to represent the newly formed and substantially larger Innes Ward on the first Council of the amalgamated City of Ottawa in November, 2000. He was re-elected last time with 84% support. A long-time resident of Blackburn Hamlet, Rainer was actively involved in his community for many years prior to seeking office while pursuing a career in the public service, handling Civic Affairs for the Blackburn Community Association, serving as Facilities Director for the annual Fun Fair fundraising event and playing an active role in the local volunteer Recreation and Parks Board. Rainer is a fixture at local sports tournaments, school concerts, block parties, festivals, fairs and fundraisers. His three sons, now all university students, were raised in the Hamlet and Rainer was heavily involved as well, through his boys, in community sports as a coach and manager in hockey and soccer. Rainer remains active in a number of sports, playing soccer for the Gloucester Old Timers Hornets, kayaking local creeks and rivers and cycling on the many east-end recreational pathways he has worked hard to develop and protect. Rainer is acknowledged as one of the frugal councillors in Ottawa and continues to represent fiscally responsible views on Council. He has been called the voice of reason by members of the media and has always been a diligent advocate for individual constituents. As a forceful voice on City Council representing his community, he has formed an informal alliance with his fellow east-end Councillors to promote shared initiatives. His priorities include effectively managing the unprecedented growth Ottawa’s east-end, improving transit service and expanding the transportation network for commuters, holding the line as much as possible on taxes and expenditures, and protecting local greenspace and the programs and services which are valued by his constituents. As shown by the large plurality of past election results, he remains responsive and committed to the people of Innes Ward, who have continued to support him over the years.

Born and raised in Ottawa, I have lived, worked and played here. I have used our city roads, drank our city water, and swam in our local beaches. I have rode our city transit, studied in our libraries, and have attended our local elementary, secondary and post-secondary schools. I have grown up in this city calling it HOME. Equal opportunity is the driving ideal for our community and our city, and it is the sole force ensuring WE thrive in our society. It has long been my belief that community stems from meeting both the immediate and basic needs essential to sustaining our health and welfare. Local governance policies ought to be pillared on successful collaboration with the people, and I strongly believe that my flexibility, motivation, and interpersonal approach in conjunction with my academia will help to develop the future of our community and our city. With both dedication and commitment rooted in servicing our community, I pride myself as a results-orientated professional. I currently sit as a member of the A.P.P.L.E. Board, assisting our community with peer support, and affordable recreational/cultural activities for those with emotional or psychiatric challenges that directly influence their determinants of health. I hold a Bachelor of Health Sciences Degree and Concentration in Philosophy from the University of Ottawa, and have actively engaged the community by being certified by St. John Ambulance as both an Advanced Medical First Responder and as a First-Aid, CPR and AED Instructor. I look forward to the opportunity to meet, work and represent YOU as the next City Councillor for Ward 2 Innes.

We need as a hands-on Ward Councillor #2 to be an active participant with all the residents & taxpayers within the City of Ottawa Council on different issues. Jim Watson's comments on the number of candidates in this City of Ottawa election is not that the present Mayor of Ottawa is disliked but because there are some City Ward Councillors that are very disappointing in the city communities and we got and need to take action to defeat them. They have no more new ideas, direction or support from the residents and taxpayers of Ottawa. Show them on October 25 and lets replace them. Their time is up. Jim Watson's idea of boroughs is not the right moment for discussion during this election. His proposal has had mixed reviews - The word buroughs should maybe be ward instead. Remember Jim Watson is a liberal from the McQuinty Government which is hated for the HST - Eco Fees and much more taxes. Why should we have any trust in Jim Watson as the new Mayor of Ottawa and that he does not hit us residents with more city taxes at the municipal level of government like all the other lies that the Provincial Liberal Government (McGuinty) has done to all of us over last 4 years. Let us all not be con to better when it will not be that way. We should empower local councillors to address local issues in their communities. My BIO is - Am married with 2 sons - Lived in Blackburn Hamlet for 10 years (Innes Ward) - Live now for 20 years in Chapel Hill South (Innes Ward) - Retired Federal Public Servant - was Finance Advisor and Analyst. Member of the Ottawa Polish Community & Other Organizations 36 years Helping the United Way in Fund-raising Campaigns. Also former Member of the Blackburn Hamlet Association.
