Safe Summer 2015A safety related wellness initiative presented by Cleveland Clinic 

Due to gun violence and recent charges of miscommunication between police and citizens, Cleveland Clinic’s Police Community Engagement team and the Clinic’s Office of Community Outreach will launch a safety related wellness program titled Safe Summer 2015.

As part of this initiative, Cleveland Clinic is hosting a Youth Violence forum to discuss safety concerns, education and resources (see box below). This forum will include a panel discussion designed to educate youth and families about community-based resources, positive relationship-building and viable solutions to help youth and families make informed decisions when confronted with threats of violence.

The Area Law Enforcement Team Brainstorms Neighborhood Issues

On March 6, 2015 the Law Enforcement Team held a brainstorming session to review and prioritize the safety issues raised by Buckeye-Shaker-Larchmere community stakeholders during meetings held over the last nine months.

Fourth District Police Commander Deon McCaulley hosted the brainstorming meeting along with security personnel who work in the Buckeye-Shaker-Larchmere, CHALK, Ludlow and Woodland Hills neighborhoods. Participants in the meeting included representatives from Cleveland’s Third District Police, Cleveland Clinic Police

Department, Cleveland Metropolitan School District Police, Cleveland Public Library Safety and Protective Services. Also present were personnel from the St. Luke’s Foundation Strong Communities Program, the Thriving Communities Institute and the Office of Ward 6 Councilwoman Mamie J. Mitchell.

Bulk Item/Tire DisposalSet Out GuidelinesEFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY, BuLk PICk-uP and TIRE DISPOSAL will be the second week of the month only.You may set out a limit of three bulk items, such as appliances, tables and chairs, mattresses and box springs, couches, furniture, plus up to 4 tires.

If you need to set out bulk items other than the 2nd week of the month, you must call 664-3711 to schedule.

The City is working to get pot holes patched as quickly as possible. The City has 10 – 12 crews per day working to repair potholes across the city, weather permitting. Main streets and second-ary mains are the priority at this time, though local low volume, low speed streets will be system-atically repaired after the main thoroughfares. residents can report potholes to 664-2510, and they can then be added to the schedule for repair.

Home energyassistance Programs

For Qualifying Ohio Residents who are 60 and older or 18 to 59 with a disability

The Ohio Development Services Agency (ODSA) offers several programs to income eligible Ohioans to assist in paying their utility bills and to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

• HeaP 1-800-282-0880 (Home Energy Assistance Program) is an assistance program that provides a one-time benefit annually to your primary heating source account. The application year 2014-2015 ends on June 30, 2015.

• PiPP Plus 1-800-282-0880 (Percentage of Income Payment Plan) is an extended payment arrangement that requires regulated gas and electric companies to accept payments based on a percentage of the household income. The application period for this program is ongoing.

• HWaP 216-664-4423 (Home Weatherization Assistance Program) is a residential energy efficiency program that reduces the energy use of qualified households. The types of assistance will be based on the home’s energy efficiency assessment.

Eligibility for these programs is based upon family size and household income.

Project Sparkle is a FrEE lawn care and snow removal service for Ward 6 seniors

and physically challenged residents.

Councilwoman Mitchell encourages thosein need to call 216-791-8683 to learn more about this program.

The start date for the East 105th Street southbound closure between Cedar Avenue and Quincy Avenue has been changed.

On monday, april 13 at 7 am, crews will close East 105th Street to southbound traffic between Cedar Avenue and Quincy Avenue for approximately 75 days. Southbound motorists will be detoured via Cedar Avenue to East 100th Street to Quincy Avenue. East 105th Street will remain open to northbound traffic.

During this time crews will begin pavement removal, excavation and waterline work starting at Quincy Avenue and proceeding north.

Flaggers will be maintaining traffic through mid-April. This work takes place Monday through Friday from 7 am to 3:30 pm and flaggers will be utilized to maintain traffic in the area.

All work listed in this update is weather permitting.
