Pastor Search Progress Report

The Designated Pastor Nominating Committee (DPNC) has been hard at work! The DPNC finalized the Ministry Information Form (MIF), a form used by candidates to learn about what RPC is looking for in a pastor. The MIF was approved by Session at their July 8 meeting. The MIF includes the new RPC mission statement, which was approved at the June 30 congregational meeting. The MIF has been posted on the Presbytery website to be viewed by prospective candidates. If you

would like to stay updated with where the DPNC is in its process, you can check out the timeline below or on the bulletin board in the hallway. Thank you for your continued support! The DPNC, Marc Sorini (co-chair), Mark Chittum (co-chair), David Tucker, Mary Ann Eull, Amy Macomber, Rachel Jung, Damaris Baker

Children’s Coin Collection

Our July Children’s Collection collected $31.19. On Sunday, July 14, the congregation got to vote on one of three classroom projects to support. All projects were hosted on the crowd-funding website, donorschoose.org. We voted to give the money to Ms. Garcia-Mejia, a teacher at Brookhaven Elementary School in Rockville, MD. Ms.

Garcia-Mejia teaches students who are blind or visually impaired. She teaches braille, using canes, and how to use limited vision. She will use our collection to buy sensory and hands-on learning supplies and new books for her students next fall. Thank you for your support!

Our next Children’s Coin Collection is Sunday August 11th.

July Session Meeting

Highlights

Actions taken by session included: Approving thee MIF, a form describing the Rockville congregation and describing

characteristics needed in the new pastor. Rescheduling of a family fun night to Wednesday, August 28th 6:00-9:00 with

dinner and activities for members and friends of the congregation of all ages. Addressing the need for additional education opportunities for members of the

congregation by changing our Sunday morning schedule on a trial basis to begin an hour earlier: 9:30 Education for all ages; 10:30 Worship;.

The next quarterly committee meetings will be held following worship August 11th and November 10th. The next meeting of session will be August 11th, dealing with any issues raised by committees.

Your Help is Needed Recovering, Maintaining, and Continuing to Record RPC's Story

Do you have any information at home that relates to our congregation’s history or current activities – buildings, furnishings, members, activities? These may be in the form of pictures, documents, or other items. Peerless Rockville will be having a tour of Rockville’s most churches September 28th. Several of our members are involved in preparing this event. Amy Macomber is our general coordinator. Marti Heilman is the point person or gathering our history, and your help is needed.

Your Help is Needed

Recovering, Maintaining, and Continuing to Record RPC's Story (cont’d)

• If you happen to have any original church documents, please arrange to return them to the church office ands soon as possible, hopefully by Friday, July 5th. • If you have personal photos or other items (such as youth mission trips and other activities, Tour de Cookie, other get-togethers and activities of youth or adult activities over the years), please contact Barbara to arrange to add these items to our story as a congregation. • Digital photos or documents can be emailed. • Hard copy items can be scanned in the church office. Please schedule this with Barbara. The church has high quality scanning capability, and we prefer you make use of this rather than using your own equipment to have the highest quality resolution. • Besides recent photos, please look for pictures of any age while downsizing, cleaning, or perhaps opening boxes you may not have looked in for years. If you don’t remember who is in a photo, or when it was taken, send it in anyway. Someone in the congregation can usually fill in he blanks in our memories.

Consider this a treasure hunt for photos, newspaper clippings, and other items old and new. And – while benefitting our congregation – you may also find yourself putting your own memories in better order.

Interfaith Works School Supply Drive

We are collecting school supplies for Interfaith Works! Each year, Interfaith Works collects items to provide school supplies to 3,000 students for the start of the school year. These items help support families that are not able to afford school supplies.

The list of Interfaith Works top needed items is below. All items should be new. Please return all items by Sunday, August 11th. This will give plenty of time for Interfaith Works Clothing Center clients to shop for school supplies. The top needed items for the School Supplies Drive are:

New backpacks for K-12 Binders – 2-inch, 3 rings Filler paper Dividers Scissors Erasers

Glue Sticks and Bottles Colored Pencils Pencil Boxes and Pouches Rulers Spiral Notebooks Two Pocket Folders

Interfaith Works Park Potomac Ice Cream Social

Saturday, August 24th Interfaith Works will be hosting the Park Potomac Ice Cream Social on Saturday,

August 24. The event benefits Interfaith Works’ School Supplies Drive and more than

2,500 children in need. The social will feature a Classic and Exotic Car Show at 11 am and

Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream at 1 pm as well as face painting, a balloon man, and door prizes.

Bring your school supply donations!

Tour of Churches

Peerless Rockville in partnership with the following churches: Christ Episcopal Church,

Clinton A.M.E., Jerusalem-Mt. Pleasant United Methodist, Rockville United Methodist, St.

Mary’s Catholic Church and Rockville Presbyterian Church, will be having a Tour of

Churches to showcase some of the oldest churches in Rockville on Saturday,

September 28th, from 1:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m.

RPC will be conducting a tour of the sanctuary, emphasizing our wonderful stain glass

windows. We will have historical items on display in the Calvin Room with refresh-

ments for the participants as Howie Jung tinkers the ivory keys with smooth jazz.

In order to accomplish this, we are asking for volunteers to help in the preparation and

execution of the above duties as well as donating cookies. We need someone to be our

official photographer so photos can be taken for posterity. If you could help, please

contact Amy Macomber at [email protected]; or 301-251-6392 (home) or

240-274-2070 (cell). Let’s make RPC the best tour of the whole circuit!

Mission Trip Update

Everyone survived the mission trip! Colin

Ruxton, Phil Ruxton, Marc Sorini, and Bob

Taylor went to Winchester, KY from June

23 to June 29. They worked on projects

such as painting houses, building decks

and wheelchair ramps, and skirting

trailers. Want to see what the mission trip

looked like? See all the pictures!

Phil: “These trips help us all make such

genuine connections with everyone

involved. The experience gives us all an

enduring gratitude for the opportunities

to work and worship together. The feeling

of accomplishment is surprising and

overwhelming! Helping someone who

really needs it is humbling. I just love it,

and I love the joy of sharing it with all the

other campers, young and less young!”

CMR/Interfaith Spotlight:

Interfaith Network of Montgomery County

RPC is a partner church to Community Reach (formerly Community Ministries of Rockville) and Interfaith Works. Last spotlight, we shone the spotlight on Interfaith Works Women’s Center. This month, we will shine the spotlight on Interfaith Network of Montgomery County (INMC).

The Interfaith Network of Montgomery County (INMC) is collaboration between Interfaith Works and the Montgomery County Faith Community Advisory Council. The INMC was created in April 2018 and focuses on bringing faith communities together to build a community where all residents feel respected, valued and supported. INMC focuses on fostering dialogue and providing faith-community solutions to crucial issues, including poverty, health care, xenophobia and bigotry.

Current programming of (INMC) includes volunteering to assist recent refugees, seniors and those challenged by health and hunger issues, training faith leaders to assist in emergency responses to hate, violence and disasters, addressing school related issues, including bullying and bigotry, and addressing unique land-use issues affecting faith communities.

Community Ministries of Rockville (CMR) Changes its name and logo

Community Ministries of Rockville (CMR) has changed its' name to Community Reach of Montgomery County. CMR’s mission and people that they serve will not change - they will continue to provide healthcare for the uninsured and under-insured; housing for previously homeless individuals; financial emergency assistance; education for immigrants; and eldercare. However, the new name better reflects the work and services that CMR provides to constituents from all over Montgomery County.
