PRINCIPAL’S NEWS...

You would all be aware that bushfi res are having a devastating impact in the northern part of the state. Some staff and members of our school communities have been personally impacted by this terrible situation. Our thoughts are with them during this very diffi cult time and we will look at ways that our school community can provide support to those aff ected over the coming days and weeks. Last Monday our boys and girls PSSA Touch Football teams played in the State Finals in Parramatta. Whilst both teams were ultimately defeated, they won plenty of admiration from spectators with their spirited eff orts. I was immensely proud of each and every child and quite honoured to be able to share the experience. On Monday, I took the opportunity to visit our friends at North Rocks Public School. The Principal of NRPS – Mr Robert Ieroianni and School Administration Manager – Mrs Kim Silver took me on a tour of the newly constructed school and were incredible hosts. It was such a thrill to be able to speak with students and personally thank them for their ongoing support of WPS throughout the drought. Thank you to the whole team at NRPS for making my visit so enjoyable. This Friday, our 2020 Kindergarten students will complete their fi nal transition session for the year. They have done a brilliant job becoming familiar with school routines. At 2:30pm, parents are invited to join with us in participating in small graduation ceremony where we will acknowledge the brilliant eff orts of these boys and girls throughout the year. In 2019, the Warialda Sports Council has made the decision to host their annual presentation ceremony in conjunction with our fi nal assembly of 2019. This special presentation will take place on Friday the 29th of November immediately following the annual student leadership assembly. Please be sure to mark this on your calendars. I was recently contacted by a representative of the Orara Valley Project – Mr Ross Gibson who had an exciting proposal. Mr Gibson spoke of the fact that many families in our community have been without regular incomes for a considerable period of time as a result of the drought and may not be in a position to enjoy a summer holiday this year. His proposal is an initiative for the people of our community to have a well- deserved break in the beautiful Orara Valley which is only 13kms from Coff s Harbour. Some local landholders are opening up their properties and providing free camping sites with porta loos provided. This would mean that families can camp on these beautiful properties – located a stones throw from the coast without any cost. The only catch is that anyone wishing to take advantage of this incredibly generous off er must register their interest by Friday 29th November by email to [email protected] or call us on 0414959520 (Available Dates: Saturday 4th January to Monday 27th January 2020).

This Thursday, our QuickSmart Numeracy program will conclude for 2019. Participating students will have completed their 30 weeks (3 x 30minute sessions each week). Congratulations to all of the students involved and a sincere thanks to Mrs Tammy Hall, Mrs Amie Turner and Mrs Sarah Taylor who have done a brilliant job of delivering this highly valuable program. Finally, I know that many families at our school are running short of water. Please remember that you are all most welcome to bring in a laundry basket full of dirty clothes and pop them in our washing machine. Have a terrifi c week! Dan van Velthuizen - Principal

Term 4 is another very busy term in 1/2S. In literacy we are learning about spiders
