Or maybe I should say S.O.O (Save Our Organization) I feel compelled to advise our WHWB members of the dire financial situation our non-profit group is in. Each month our operating expenses run $1200 - $1300.00. This includes rent, electric, insurance, printing and various imperative items. This figure doesn’t include, batting, flannel, snaps, zippers or miscellaneous notion items. Prior to WHWB moving to Arvada our Brighton group applied for financial assistance via Grants and Individual Donations; however, since moving to Arvada, no one has applied for any grants. I know you will ask why? Answer: it was an oversight….it was partly an assumption grants would continue to be applied for / partly changing of leadership roles/, partly failure to recognize this step was missed in the move. It takes $14,000 -$15,000 yearly to operate WHWB. We have made an effort to increase our money flow by asking our members to use Amazon Smile and King Soopers cards. We diligently strive to make our craft shows successful, but they cannot meet the amount of money it requires to operate for the whole year. We recently received our first King Soopers check in the amount of $251, and we hope this program will be a help to us on going. (Yes, It will help as you continue to use your King Soopers card when shopping). We now have some people who are starting to file for grants, but this takes time, as grants are usually awarded 1-2 times a year, and one has to be accepted to receive these gifts. As you can see… this is not a quick fix! We would like you to ask your family and friends, who might be making year-end donations to any non-profits, that they consider WHWB so that we can continue to provide for our little needy babies. If you have suggestions, please feel free to contact any of our, Officers or Directors. Thank you! If you are receiving your newsletter in the mail but don’t need a hard-copy, please let us know. We hope that this will help defray some expenses. We will continue to send out Thank You notes. We are sorry for this action but postage has become too prohibitive, and we feel this is warranted. THANK YOU, In the last newsletter I requested that people donate their extra flannel that was not in use. We received several donations. This allowed us to withhold from purchasing more flannel at this time. The need continues, if you have more, we will accept it. S.O.S.

……. Or maybe I should say S.O.O (Save Our Organization) I feel compelled to advise our

WHWB members of the dire financial situation our non-profit group is in.

Each month our operating expenses run $1200 - $1300.00. This includes rent, electric, insurance, printing and various imperative items. This figure doesn’t include, batting, flannel, snaps, zippers or miscellaneous notion items.

Prior to WHWB moving to Arvada our Brighton group applied for financial assistance via Grants and Individual Donations; however, since moving to Arvada, no one has applied for any

grants.

We diligently

strive to make our craft shows successful, but they cannot meet the amount of money it requires to operate for the whole year. We recently received our first King Soopers check in the amount of $251, and we hope this program will be a help to us on going. (Yes, It will help

are usually awarded 1-2 times a year, and one has to be accepted to receive these gifts. As you can see… this is not a quick fix!

SEW-A-THON A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

Thank you one and all who participated.

First, there were 25 members in attendance. Next we

completed 25 quilts, and 39 sleepers.

We had visitors from other groups attend, and so many

volunteers I wasn’t sure I would be able to keep everyone

busy… but it came together.

Cindy cut 104 sleepers, ahead of time and Rosemary

cut ribbing, Fran made samples of the steps to put the

sleepers together and guided many in the steps to an

easier flow of sewing the pieces. I know I saw smoke

coming out of machines as Helen & Ellen, Mary, Lori, &

Connie sewed them. As sleepers were finished they

handed them to the table towards the back where snaps

were put on them, by Cosette, Lynette, Sister Williams,

or our President Jean.

The Brighton group sent quilts that were ready to go.

The tops backs and batting were sandwiched and all we

had to do was start sewing around the edges, turn them

and hand them over to our “tying” table. Who knew

Richard, our Candy Man, can turn quilts, and very well

too.

The Arvada group had prepared precut strips, &

backing. We had Donna, Lucy, Charlie, Lynette, & Jean

sewing the premade quilts or the strips together, then

handed them back to the cutting table and Neva helped

me match strips and cut them and we handed them right

back to the Sewists. She did much more than I did

because I was constantly around the room giving a job to

someone, or answering questions. Off in the corner,

where there was a lot of room, tops & backs were ironed

and batting was cut and matched and once again handed

back to the Sewists

We stopped for a good long tall stretch to get the kinks

out, and we stopped for a Pot Luck Lunch that (as usual)

was great. Always a wonderful variety of Salad, pastas,

veggies a big Lasagna, and desserts. We ate so much for

lunch that Dinner was salad and Potato soup. I cannot

name all the dishes and donors names, but need to

mention if you have had Glenda’s potato soup you know

about that taste of delight

Jean gave me big thank you for a job well done in

coordinating and keeping things moving and so I will

accept a pat on the back. I sincerely have to thank all of

those who gave their support and encouragement. We

hope to do another one in Spring. I am sorry that I didn’t

mention everyone who helped by name, as

there were so very many. I thank you all!

THANKSGIVING

It’s November and that means Thanksgiving is here, it’s our special holiday of the month, along with Veteran’s Day.

At WHWB, we have so very much to be thankful for. We have over 400 volunteers who give from the heart, every month.

We have a couple new groups, and some new members. We continue to deliver 4 – 6 thousand items to the little babies and our volunteers just keep on making sleepers, afghans, quilts, jackets, hats & booties, and more. PLUS, we asked for articles for the craft shows and volunteers seemed to pop out of nowhere and make extra items – like necklaces, totes, ornaments, and so many other elements, it is just astounding. It is not just the giving that makes a difference; it is the friendships that evolve. The caring for one another that makes a difference in a meeting day.

It is Thanksgiving and our Warm Hearts are glowing with the wonderful gifts of love, friendship, support and baby items abounding that you provide. THANKYOU, to every member who helps in the largest and smallest way

Christmas

A time when we count our blessings.

Christmas is love in action, a divine day full of sharing, joy & peace. We warm the heart and serve the soul with the love we share at Christmas

At the Arvada Christmas meeting we will not have a pot luck lunch; soup will be provided by Glenda, please bring salad or dessert to go along with it.

There will be A White Elephant gift exchange and a Cookie exchange. If you wish to participate in either or both please bring a gift and/or bring 4 dozen cookies to exchange.

In addition, we meet at King of Glory Church and they have asked us to donate a gift of scarves, hats, mittens, or gloves for the Lutheran Family Services. Please bring them to the meeting.

Baby Ella sez:

Winter is definitely on the way, it is time to be working on long pants, long sleeved shirts and jackets. We are presently in need of jackets, gowns and booties. Sweaters are especially good for winter. WE NEED FLANNEL! Any extra you have around would be greatly appreciated. Hey, some items in red would be good to have for Valentine’s Day (always thinking ahead). Believe it or not, we actually have enough toiletries and socks, for the time being. Thank you for the wonderful donations of toiletries, bottles, and socks.

Especially, I thank you for all the wonderful work you do please have a Happy Holiday Season.

Love and Holiday blessings to all of you.
