Notes: American Revolution
Declaration of Independence: A document written by Thomas Jefferson stating that the United States thought of itself as its own nation, while it fought for independence from Britain.
Stamp Act: (1765) A law requiring that people pay for to add a stamp to every piece of paper. This was a way for Britain to tax the colonies. The colonists thought this was “taxation without representation.”

Notes: American Revolution Boston Tea Party: A
political protest in 1773 in which patriots shoved boxes of tea in the harbor to show that they were against the Tea Act, which taxed colonists’ tea.
Intolerable Acts: Laws given by the British government to colonists in response to the tea party to show that Britain was still in control (though they soon lost that control.)
