ESTABLISHED• Warner Bros. was established when the Warner brothers (Albert, Sam,

Harry and Jack) incorporated their fledging movie company on April 4th, 1923

• In 1927 they released the world’s first “talkie”)synchronized-sound feature film, The Jazz Singer, set a character and tone of innovation and influence that would become synonymous with the name Warner Bros.

ABOUT• Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. is a fully integrated, broad-based

entertainment company and a global leader in the creation, production, licensing and marketing of all forms of entertainment

• Company consists of more than 61,000 hours of programming, including nearly 6,500 feature films and 3,000 television programmes

• In 2012 they grossed $4.3 billion at the worldwide box office and having its domestic and international divisions crossing the billion-dollar mark for a 12th consecutive year

ABOUT• Company is owned by Time Warner and the CEO is Kevin Tsujhara,

recently appointed in March 2013• Kevin Tsujhara oversees worldwide operations, including film, television

and video game production, marketing and distribution for one of the most innovative and successful entertainment companies in the world

HISTORY• They began in the movie theatre business, having acquired a movie projector with which they

showed films in the mining towns of Pennsylvania and Ohio.• Sam and Albert invested £150 to present Life of an American Fireman and The Great Train

Robbery.• They opened their first theatre, The Cascade, in New Castle, Pennsylvania in 1903 and when it

was in danger of being demolished, Warner Bros. called the current owners and arranged to save it

• In 1904 they founded the Pittsburgh-based Duquesne Amusement and Supply Company• In 1918 they opened Warner Bros. studio on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Sam and Jack

produced the pictures while harry and albert handled finance and distribution in New York City• In November 1966, Jack gave in to advancing age and changing times, selling control of the

studio and music business to Seven Arts Productions run by Canadian investors Elliot and Kenneth Hyman

STRUCTURE• They produce and distribute a wide-range slate of some 18-22 films per

year• They either fully finance or co-finance the films it produces and maintains

worldwide distribution rights. I also monetizes it’s distribution and marketing operations by distributing films that are totally financed and produced by third-parties.

CURRENT SITUATION• As of 2015, Warner Bros. is one of only three studios to have released a

pair of billion-dollar films in the same year (along with Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and Universal Studios); the distinction was achieved in 2012 with The Dark Knight Rises and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

RANGE OF FILMS• Warner Bros. produces and releases a huge variety of films including

Comedy, Horror and action (probably the most common)• They have 7 films out right now including Pan, The Man From U.N.C.L.E

and The Intern• The film genres that they have chosen to make more of recently and the

actors they have put in these films has made a lot of money and so we can see that it’s obviously working for them

money yet they get a massive profit which is why they are so successful.
