ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL REPORT

CONGRATULATIONS to all the dads and key male role models (107 in total), who had the chance to attend our special night. Warranwood now has our very own Fathering Project Program and I’d like to say a very special thanks to the volun-teers who approached me after the presentation and agreed to form our first organising team. We will be meeting in the coming weeks at a venue to be advised to plan our first Warranwood Father/Child event. There are already so many ideas and so much enthusiasm being shown by our very own CHAMPION DADS AND MALE ROLE MODELS! Please be aware that if for some reason you were unable to make it last night you can still join in and become a Warranwood Champion Dad! See me for more details. Please stay posted for information about our Planning Team meeting and dinner at a local pub in the coming weeks.-WATCH THIS SPACE! Fathering Funnies! Ok Dad. Your fathering since the last meeting has been good! Cuddles, plays and trips to the park are all up. This is very encouraging. We’ve noticed shoulder rides and bath times are down, not really a cause for concern yet, but I’ll flag it any-way. Now, about pocket money…. Fathering Tip of the Week Say, “I love you!” Tell your children you love them, often. Make eye contact and use your children’s names. Surprise them sometimes by expressing your love when they don’t expect it. Write how you feel in cards, notes, emails and text messages. Love includes being there for your children, no matter what! Tell your children you will always be there for them. Senior school packed full of dads! Dads sharing what they think makes a great dad SPRING FAIR Competition winners A huge congratulations to Cambell for his amazing design and concepts in his graphic presentation. We are sure you will agree his is a tremendous fit for our fair.A special mention to both Tijana and Lila for their great work and coming runner up in the design competition. Cambell will appreciate his unlimited ride wristband and the girls will enjoy a $20 food and drink vouchers at the fair.

A SPECIAL PREPPY THANK YOU All the Preps at Warranwood would like to say a HUGE thank you to the parents and helpers who have made their play space so nice. As you can see it is looking so much friendlier and the sand pit has come alive! We would like to acknowledge Nathan Hill from Hillscapes Landscaping for all his expertise and extra long hours to make sure the play space could be rejuvenated.

NAPLAN Over the past few days our Year 3 and Year 5 students have been completing NAPLAN assessments in Literacy and Numeracy. NAPLAN 2017 results will be provided to schools and parents from mid-August. All students who participat-ed in the NAPLAN tests will get an individual report of their results. NAPLAN individual student reports provide infor-mation about what students know and have achieved in the areas of reading, writing, language conventions and nu-meracy. We will forward the reports home in a sealed envelope when they are ready. There will be some catch up tests held for students to complete missed tests on Friday 12 May. We have been pleased with the calm and balanced approach our students have approached NAPLAN tests this year. It is a credit to all our families for the way in which they have ensured a balanced approach to the testing. Well done team! Shane

attending Warranwood Primary School to conduct the annual Prep health assessments. Diane will also see

other children, as requested by parents or referred by teachers (with parents’ consent).

to link children, families and school communities to services available in the community; and to provide in-

formation and advice that promotes health and wellbeing. Parents are invited to contact Diane on 0448 377

Parents of students (other than Prep students) who wish their child to be seen by the school nurse need to

complete a referral form that is available at the school office. This completed referral form needs to be then

returned to the school office.

Parents of students in Prep should be aware that if you do not wish to consent to the program you still must

complete page 3 of the questionnaire, tick the appropriate box, sign and return the form by May 19, 2017.

Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge 2017

The Victorian Premier’s Reading Challenge is now open and we are excited about participating again this year. The Challenge is open to all Victorian children from birth to 16 years in recognition of the importance of reading for literacy development. It is not a competition, but a personal challenge for children to read a set number of books by the closing date of the challenge. Children from Prep to Year 2 are encouraged to read or ‘experience’ 30 books with their parents and teachers. Children from Year 3 to Year 10 are challenged to read 15 books. You can register your child by completing the form in this newsletter and returning it to school. All children who meet the Challenge will receive a certificate of achievement signed by the Victorian Premier and can choose to have their name included on the online Honour Roll. For more information about the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge and to view the booklists, visit: www.education.vic.gov.au/prc I hope that we have many enthusiastic Warranwood students participat-ing this year! Grown Up’s Garden Club Our garden club consists of parents, grandparents and friends from the local community who meet to garden, maintain the school and enjoy a cuppa. We are mindful that some people have physical limitations, but there is plenty to do, so there is always an appropriate job for everyone. Projects are allocated based on what needs to be done in the school and the ability of the group from sweeping leaves to weeding, pruning, planting, mulching etc. In addition to the gardening we do, it’s a social morning with refreshments provided too. The kids love to be a part of it and often join in during recess or lunch times. Our next Garden club is Tuesday 16

th May from 9-1 and you are welcome to come for any part of this time you can

spare. If you have any questions or would like to be involved in any way please contact the office (child teacher etc) Or you can contact Kirsty on 0438 666 638 or [email protected]
