fter the battle with China, Russia soon became another formidable enemy of Japan.

After another year of war in 1904, Russia became another victim to the great power of Japan.

After the Sino-Japanese war, Japan had a meeting with three other countries. It was Germany, France and Russia. This meeting took place in order to buy back Liaotung Peninsula from Japan. However, this event was only the very very beginning of another war.

Since China’s Liaotung peninsula was bought by Russia and was returned to the Chinese, Russians were allowed to connect their railways to Chinese Eastern Railway. However, Japan feared that by doing so, Russia would be able to take over Manchuria easily not to mention Korea.

Russia’s advance in the Far East didn’t only threaten Japan, Britain was very worried as well. Fearing that Russia would expand further, Britain and Japan formed an alliance called the

Anglo-Japanese Alliance. This alliance was signed on January 30th, 1902. With Britain as an ally, Japan became far stronger.

Japan wanted to gain control of Korea no matter what the cost was. However, Russia only partially recognized Japan’s interest in Korea. Soon after, Japanese

troops flooded the Russian lands and trampled over the Russian troops. There were several casualties on both sides.

When the war finally ended, Japan was victorious and the treaty of Portsmouth finally ended the Russo-Japanese war.

Was it Really the Right thing to Form an Alliance with Britain? -Kenshin Otoshi

as the alliance really a right thing to have done? Many Japanese leaders believed

that this kind of alliance wouldn’t last long and would soon break out as a war. However, the Anglo-Japanese Alliance were one of the best choices made to protect Japan’s interest in Korea.

Russia was one of the largest country in the world. For Japan to win against a formidable like Russia, Britain’s aid was essential. Personally speaking, I believe that without Britain’s aid, taking over Russia might have a little difficult to handle. However, by receiving Britain’s help, we were able to defeat the Russian forces and we were able to

keep the Russians from coming near China or Korea.

Even though we had to recognize Britain’s special interest in China, we have gained many territories and privileges so the loss isn’t all that big.

Lastly, since both Britain and Japan would prefer not to conflict each other, I believe that it was a wise choice to create an alliance. Adding on to that, no other country would be able to attack us or Britain easily as long as this alliance is held.

Interview With Emperor

Meiji Lifestyle

All of us has at least heard of the amazing feats that Emperor Meiji presented to us. With his superior rule, Japan had been able to take over Korea, China and even defeat Russia. However, we never know what he thinks of these acts so we’ll go ahead and interview with him.

Question: What do you wish to achieve through this expansion oh great emperor Meiji?

Answer: I hope that our population would be able to live in another piece of land for Japan is isolated and enclosed which makes it hard to populate.

Question: What do you expect of the future Japan?

Answer: I hope that Japan becomes one of the strongest countries of the world. I also hope that we would be able to take over most of Asia after a few more years.

New lifestyle changes occurred because of the new technologies that the west invented. Many utensils and materials are being imported from the west.

Some of the most useful utensils are the cooking utensils. These materials are purely made of steel and are very useful in creating delicious dishes. Furthermore, the steel allows the utensil to keep its composure, making it less dirty.

Another popular object that was imported was the western style sake. These sakes are highly addicted and it is one of the greatest pleasure wealthy individuals are experiencing.

Although most of these western style food and utensils are expensive, they are making life so much easier.
