Warrior Defense: Defensive PhilosophyWe are a multiple front, gap control, secondary support, “ATTACK and REACT” defensive football team. Our base front has four down lineman and three linebackers (4-3).

Our defensive line play is based on quickness and movement. The purpose of this is to create penetration, confuse offensive lineman, dictate blocking schemes, and keep offensive lineman off our linebackers. Generally, our defensive lineman will attack through the “V” of the neck of the offensive lineman. Our linebackers will fill their gap of responsibility when threatened at the line of scrimmage.

The goal of the front 7, is to make the ball bounce east and west, by making a solid wall across the line of scrimmage. We will use our speed to pursue to the ball and make the tackle.

Discipline and effort are our 2 main priorities. All 11 players WILL be disciplined in carrying out each of their individual responsibilities. All 11 players will use maximum effort to pursue and get to the ball every snap.

Discipline, effort, and enthusiasm are the three key components for having a successful defensive football team

Our Goal as a defense is to put pressure on the ball with our defensive line and close the gaps down causing the ball to bounce east and west.

Offensive Line Numbering System

Defensive line and linebackers align in in our multiple fronts according to

these numbers

8 5 2 2 5 8

9 7 6 4 3 1 0 0 1 3 4 6 7 9

Linebackers: Add a “Zero” to the above numbering system to align linebackers “OFF” the LOS (Ex. Sam = 80 alignment)

ALIGNMENT RULES

A. We will align our players according to the strong and weak side of the formation. corners will align according to the wide and short side of the field.

B. Alignment vs. double T.E. : Rush defensive end will align in a “7” technique in all of these fronts: (base, wild, stone , smokin, string, winde, wild) unless otherwise game planned.

C. Alignment vs. T.E. trade: Trade will be adjusted by our L.B.’s, they will either walk “on” or “ off” the LOS. The only adjustment our D – Line will make will be by our defensive ends. A “9” Technique will have to kick to a “6” technique.(exceptions: “ front” will end up in “base” straight remains straight)

L.B. Position Alignment Rules Sam: Aligns to the strong side of the the formation, will

be in multiple alignments due to the multiple fronts. Mike: Aligns in the middle of the formation at a “10”

tech, unless we have a walked out or walked on will or sam backer, then he aligns in a “20” tech to the walked out or on backer

Will: Aligns to the weak-side of the formation, will be in multiple alignments due to the multiple fronts.

STACK PACKAGE OUR STACK PACKAGE ALLOWS US TO

GET INTO 17 DIFFERENT 4 - 4 FRONTS

Stack gives us the ability to bring the monster in the box, or personnel the package with a 4th lb (whip lb)

Play calling: use the word stack at the end of the front call: (base stack)

Page 36: WARRIOR DEFENSE 2004

LB adjustmentswith monster in box

1. If there is a lb on the los, the stack safety will replace his run or pass responsibility

2. If there is no lb on the los, the stack safety will align in a 90 tech strong side, sam, and mike bump to “20”tech

3. When the stack safety replaces will, mike backer will stay base technique “10” technique
