Russia’s Economy Prior to 1914
• The economy in Russia was greatly unbalanced• The peasants were living in economic depression, while the nobility were living
wealthy lives.• Similarly to most other powers, Russia was industrializing; Russia had many mines
and factories which produced goods needed for the county. • Since Russia was behind in the race of industrializing, the creation of heavy
industry allowed them close the gap between their economy and the economies of other prominent powers.
Russia’s Military Prior to 1914• Russia’s industrialization improved the military ability of Russia• Russia’s Army consisted of ground, aerial, and naval forces• By 1914 Russia had the world’s largest aerial and ground armies• Due Russia’s large landmass and poor transporting abilities, it was difficult to
deploy such a large army efficiently• It was also difficult to successfully supply such an enormous army
