World Vision has established its operations in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) on September 2014. KRI is an autonomous region in Northern Iraq with borders at the Kurdish regions of Iran to the East, Turkey to the North, and Syria to the West, along with the rest of Iraq to the South.
It has a population of nearly four million. World Vision?s operations are focused on its three governorates: Erbil, Duhok and Sulaymaniyah with a geographical area of about 40,000 square kilometres.
World Vision KRI has been responding to the needs of IDPs and refugees by creating access to primary health care, safe water, appropriate sanitation and improved hygiene, food and nutrition and child protection services.
World Vision focuses on specialised large scale sustainable water supply systems (water treatment, storage supply and boreholes) and specific WASH schemes such as the disability inclusive projects in partnership with Handicap International .

After assessments were completed, World Vision has secured registration to work in the three governorates with approximately 2.1 million internally-displaced persons (IDPs). The major concentration of the response work is on 220,000 displaced living in non-camps, particularly those who have settled in unused buildings and non-camp structures who receive less support from other organizations.
