100 Year Celebration at the 2014 County Fair

Swine Members!

There is new development on a disease called SECD

(Swine Enteric Coronavirus Disease), formally known

as PEDv for pigs. Here in Washakie County, we want

to take all precautions as we prepare for our upcom-

ing tagging and county fair. Tagging will run similar to

last year. All pigs must remain in their trailer during

tagging. 4-H and FFA members may tag their own

pigs. No pigs will be allowed to use the scale. No

wormer will be offered.

Sheep, Goat, Swine and Beef Sale Weights for Fair The weight limits for market animals to be able to be sold in the

Junior Livestock Sale are:

Underweight animals will be able to show but will not be

sold!

Overweight animals will be able to show and sell but only at

the maximum weight! Breeding Animal Ownership Deadline All animals including breeding beef, breeding swine,

breeding sheep, dairy cattle, dairy goats and poultry

must be in member’s possession by June 1st.

Sheep and Goat Scrapies Tags

All exhibiting sheep and goats must have a USDA

Scrapies tag, preferably in the right ear. If you are

raising your own lambs, you need to have your own

have a tag, they are available from the APHIS office.

His enthusiasm was contagious and everyone felt

that it was one of the highlights of their year.”

For monthly Character Counts go to: http://www.uwyo.edu/4-h/character-counts/newsletter-inserts/index.html

Responsibility is doing your best to

take care of the things around you

that need to be done.

Responsibility involves a few things:

Accountability

Using Self Control

Having Goals

Choosing a positive attitude

Doing your duty

How do we learn to be responsi-

ble? When we practice being re-

sponsible, we learn how to be

more responsible. We also learn

responsibility from good role mod-

els.

A big part of being responsible is

making good choices. The

two fundamental princi-

ples of good decisions

are: 1—We all have the

power to decide what we

do and what we say.

2—We are all morally re-

sponsible for the conse-

quences of our choices.

The Six Letter Solution

Prep: Have the following group

of letters written on a flip chart

or white board before club

members arrive. Be sure to

keep this exact order:

RSIESXPLOETNTSIBEL-

RISTY.

Directions: Hidden in this jum-

ble of letters is a specific word

in the English language that

can only be found if you re-

move six letters. If you find it,

write it down so everyone has

a chance to discover it. What

questions do you have?

(The trick to the activity is to

eliminate the letters “s-i-x-l-e-t-

t-e-r-s” to reveal the hidden

word of responsibility. )

After the youth have figured

out the activity or you show

them the

trick, discuss the different

aspects of responsibility.

Possible discussion start-

ers are:

What does responsibility

mean to you?

How have you seen others

act responsibly?

Do you think responsibility

is important? Why?

How can we be responsi-

ble 4-H members?

4-H Activity

Responsibility

RESPONSIBILITY

Clover Connection

Head - Think things

through thoroughly and

set goals

Heart - Be a good friend

and take care of those

around you.

Hands – Do what needs

to be done without being

asked.

Health – Take care of

Remember, being responsi-

ble isn’t always easy. If we

work hard, and take responsi-

bility for ourselves, it will be

worth it in the end. Being re-

sponsible helps us achieve

great things, and helps us

feel good about ourselves

and our accomplishments.
