Scholarship Bucket Raffle and Silent AuctionTHURSDAY MAY 11, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM This year we are again offering a Scholarship Bucket Raffle and adding a few Silent Auction items for bids. All raffle & silent auction proceeds go toward our WASBO Scholarship Program. Purchase your $1.00 raffle tickets at the conference registration desk. The raffle & silent auction will run on Thursday only from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm .

Conference Service Project

The Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery is an extraordinary place . It provides a safe, short-term respite (from a few hours up to three days) for all family members . For children, it provides a haven of unconditional love and attention from adults whose only hope is to create lifetime memories of security . For parents who are overwhelmed and lack support, it’s a breath of fresh air and helps eliminate tremendous burdens . Parenting classes are also offered to family members . Donations will be accepted at the conference registration area .

Chris Reykdal, Superintendent of Public InstructionChris Reykdal was born and raised in Snohomish, Washington as the youngest of eight children . He has served as a high school history teacher, local school board member, state legislator, and budget and education policy executive for our state’s community and technical college system . Chris has dedicated his entire career to public education, and he is currently serving in his first term as the State Superintendent of Public Instruction . Chris and his wife, Kim, live in historic Tumwater with their two children, Carter and Kennedy . Chris graduated summa cum laude from Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in social studies and a teaching certificate, and he earned a master’s degree in public administration from the University of North Carolina–Chapel Hill . He coached both youth and adult soccer for several years, he volunteered as a local city planning commissioner, and he had the honor of serving as a trustee for the College Spark Washington Foundation for six years .Chris leads a team at OSPI that is committed to opening up multiple pathways to high school graduation beyond the “university for all” approach . To do this and truly embrace all students, Chris is leading the charge to expand technical education opportunities and to decrease our reliance on standardized tests that label our students . Additionally, he is building broad coalitions that are working to close opportunity gaps through critical policy and budget changes .

WASBO Scholarships are available!The WASBO Scholarship Program was established in 1993, to assist WASBO members in furthering their education or that of others in the areas of school business management . Through the generosity of members and allied personnel, these funds are managed by the Board of Directors to assure maximum results/benefits.

Who Can Apply?All WASBO members are eligible . Scholarships are awarded for the Annual Conference registration fee ($300) only .
