From the East Continued

While, per Washington Lodge No. 4 Bylaws, we will have no Stated Communications in July and August, I have called a Special

Communication for Thursday, July 9th at 7:30 PM for the specific purpose of discussing and balloting on the carry over motion from

our June Stated Meeting. There will beno dinner in advance of the July 9th Special Communication. The meeting will discuss no

further business.

The motion is “To provide a loan of up to $10,000 made available to the Vancouver Masonic Temple Incorporated for the purpose

of operating the Vancouver Masonic Center, with said funds to be designated to cover the operating costs of the Center over the

months of July 2015 through October of 2015”. The VMTI recently received an offer of $1.6M for the VMC, with a 40 day feasibil-

ity period, and a target close date of mid-to-late September. On Tuesday, June 16th, the VMTI ratified the approval of the sale by

unanimous vote of all shares represented. (While all WA4 shares were represented, two representatives of other shareholding

organizations were not present at the meeting, nor did they identify a proxy.)

Those of you who have been able to attend our meetings over the past several months are aware that the Temple Board

of Vancouver Elks Lodge No. 823has been in contact with Washington Lodge No. 4 (along with Mt. Hood Lodge No. 32 and repre-

sentatives of the VMTI) to discuss a rental offer for space at their 11605 SE McGillivray Blvd. location. As it happens, when the Van-

couver Elks Lodge No. 823 was first formed, they found a home at the Vancouver Masonic Center, paying the nominal fee of $1

year for several years while they built up their assets prior to purchasing property of their own. The Elks are moved to return the

favor to “the Masons”, and have crafted an 18 month rental agreement, and have further expressed interest in forming a longer-

term rental agreement, if needs be.

Needless to say, there will be work required over summer to:

1. Prepare to vacate the VMC

2. consummate a rental agreement for an alternate location

3. obtain dispensation from Grand Lodge to meet in an alternate location

Look for additional communications via email and on our Lodge Facebook page over summer.

Do good unto all.

Junior Warden

“On Going Dark”

As the forecast calls for triple digit temperatures in the very near future, we close our Lodge for a couple months so we can get out

and appreciate the weather. Being a transplant from California to the Pacific Northwest has taught me to cherish these long days

and warm nights.

So now it's time for summer parties and BBQ's and camping trips and watching the kids run in the sprinklers. And when the days

begin to shorten we will again resume our labors in Masonic light, most likely in a new building, but for now it's playtime.

I've come to consider the summer break to be the halfway point in the Masonic Year. I know when we come back in September we

only have two months before elections and a new Installation of Officers, so the Year is more like 80% over, but math was never

really my strong suit. I like my version better anyways.

Are there really only four more meals for me to prepare before my time in the South is up? I've got a couple months to come up

with a few more ideas to feed my fellow brothers. I'll dust off the cookbook, get together some recipes and be ready when my

friends look to me with empty plates and hungry bellies.

Now that I think about it, I'm going to go run in the sprinklers myself.

The Chaplains Corner

Here is another selection from Level Steps. 100 Daily Meditations for Freemasons by Jonti Marks.

’Live on old monuments of the past,

Our beacon through age’s dark!

In primal majesty still you’ll last,

Endeared by each Mason mark.’

-Anon

In becoming Freemasons, we unknowingly attached ourselves to a huge weight of history. We became part of a stream of ancient

hope and endeavor which has crystallised into our modern Craft. No Mason can be unaware of the traditions of his Lodge, his Grand

Lodge and of the institution as a whole and each Mason should try to feel a part of his heritage. Despite the many so-called scandals

that have plagued it through the years, Freemasonry remains a system that advocates the highest to which human endeavor can

attain. ONLY individual Freemasons can undermine this and so we should take care to nurture our Masonry with pride in its past and

the determination, to be the best ambassadors for its future.

For all of our Brothers and fellows; widows, friends or families that are having a difficult time right now, or are currently suffering in

sickness and distress, please reach out to us… as we are standing ready to help out within the length of our cable tow.

So Mote It Be

In Brotherly Love and Friendship,

Bro. Rick Cox, Chaplain - Washington Lodge # 4
