PTA Events from October Fall Book Fair The 2016 Fall Book Fair was a big success! The fair earned approximately $6,300, which will be used to fund Mrs. Craig's Birthday Book program – a favorite among all students. Thank you to our wonderful Co-Chairpersons, Adrianne Karlovitz and Judith Zapf. As always, one of the highlights of the book fair is the Family Celebration of Reading Night. We are so grateful for the participation of Mr. Babb, Mrs. Craig, Mr. Ourada and Mrs. Willems! Thank you! Thank you to our wonderful volunteers who generously gave their time to make the book fair a success: Katie Alongi, Giulia Attolini, Brook Betterton, Kristen Betterton-Densmore, Urszula Dzieniowska, Janelle Eskridge, Deb Evans, Janel Greaves, Libby Hafkey, Barb Kading, Stacey Klaus, Megan Kriss, Rachel Kroger, Viona Kundacina, Jen Levine, Mary Moore, Erin Olsen, Shelley Schilling, Amanda Somers, Kathy Radojkovic, Juanita Rocha, and Clariza Varney.

The Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA) brought their Disability Awareness program to Washington on October 20th. Through hands-on activities, our Fourth Grade students learned what being disabled might feel like. Students rotated through four stations: physical challenge, visual impairment, hearing impairment, and intellectual delay. We thank Lynn Kadel, PTA President, for coordinating the event.

PTA Events from November

Family Fun Night – Roller Skating On November 10th, Washington families gathered to roller skate the night away at Coachlite Roller Skating Rink. Thanks to the PTA, we were able to have the entire rink dedicated to our school. A wonderful night was had by all with a great turnout of students and their families. Thank you for all who came and for having a Great Washington Family Fun Night! And a big thank you to our Vice President of Community Building, Wendi Viola, for Chairing this Committee.

Dine-Outs Update Dine-Out Chairperson Megan Kriss reports that both October’s and November’s Dine-Outs were quite successful. In October, Manhattan’s restaurant hosted our event, resulting in $391 for the Washington PTA. Burrito Parilla hosted our November event, resulting in $140.50 in proceeds. There will not be a Dine-Out event in December. However, please watch for information to come regarding our January Dine-Out at the Smokehouse in Wheaton. Gyros!!

Staff Appreciation Committee Update The PTA Staff Appreciation Committee is hard at work making life a little sweeter for Washington teachers and staff. Each month, this committee tries to do a little something for Washington employees as a token of appreciation. In late October, mum flowerpots in a harvest décor were raffled off. In November the Committee hosted a staff luncheon, catered by the California Pizza Kitchen, featuring salads and pastas. A very special thank you to Randy and Megan Kriss for their generous donation of the catered food, which was delicious and abundant! Thank you also to Amy Jones, Elizabeth Manning, Nelia Pereira, Stacey Klaus, Megan Chapman and Barb Kading for their contributions. The Committee is seeking help for their December Appreciation event. On Thursday, December 15, they will be offering gift wrapping for the Staff. This is a brand-new activity for this committee and they hope it will be well received! If you enjoy wrapping presents and can spare an hour or two during the hours of 8am and 4:30pm on Dec 15th., please reach out to Co-Chairperson Barb Kading at 630-460-7348 or via e-mail to [email protected].
