The Watchman Entry System is the newest product from CellGate. Watchman is meant to be an easily installed self-contained gate or door entry system.

This document will provide the steps needed to install and test the Watchman unit on the customer site. The first part of the procedure requires logging into the web portal system and setting up some users to create codes and access permissions.

Once the web portal configuration is complete, you are ready to go on-site. The other part of the document provides the details on the electrical connections needed to be made in the Watchman unit. In addition, the appendices provide information on how to connect the Watchman to various gate controllers.

Please note the physical installation of the Watchman unit to a stand or pole should follow standard construction procedures and meet all code requirements.

All electrical cables should be run in conduit, this includes both power and Ethernet cables needed for the operation of the system.

This guide provided by CellGate, is intended as a reference guide for the installation of the Watchman Product. ‘It is not intended to be used as a public resource outside of CellGate

Prior to installing the Watchman System at the customer location it is recommended the following steps are completed. This will allow for on-site testing when the installation is complete.

Login into the web portal using the customer login information provided byCellGate.

Verify device information on the portal dashboard for gate trigger, internal camera and where applicable, the external camera

Go to the user section, select the customer userinformation and double click on the customer user.

In Access Methods, select Access Code

Enter a new access codeto be used during testing of the unit and add the method.

In order to setup notifications follow these instructions:

Door OpenedDoor ClosedWill inform the user when the gate is openedand closed.

OpenedWill send a notification whenever the gate or door is opened with time, date, name of the gate, access code used and the person associated with the access code.

The Electrical connections should be made as shown in the following steps.

Mount the unit. In this example we show mounting to a 48” (122cm) gooseneck pole.

It is recommended the top of the unit be at a minimum of 50” (127 cm) from the ground.

Wire the power adapter provided as shown to the right.

The far end of the cable should be wired as shown below.

Open the box, and pull the power and gate connection from board and wire as indicated.

Make sure to wire gate operator using the same wires as indicatedhere. Wire diagrams forsome of the more common gate operators is provided inthe appendix.


Pull power / gate control into the unit.

For optional external camera, run additional power and Ethernet.

On an 18/6 shielded cable:Red – 12 V DC powerBlack – Common

Optional:When installing an external camera, make the following additionalconnections as shown.

See Appendix 1 for Camera Side.

Close the case. Make the required connections to the gateoperator as detailed in the appropriate manufacturer’s documentation.

Power the system.

NOTE: The appendices contain references for connecting to different gate controllers.

Once the electrical connections are made, it will take the modem 5 minutes to complete initialization. After this is complete the modem lights should be as follows:


Power connection:

Troubleshooting GuideIn the event there is a problem with the installation, please refer to the table below for a possible solution.

Condition Possible ResolutionUnit does not power up Check 12V power connections to the unit

Modem does not power up Check 12V power connections both on the board and on the back of the modem.

Gate does not open

Check connections on the gate controller and verify they match the controller block on the Watchman control board.

Unplug control block from Watchman control board and tie the Normally Open and Common together. (These are the yellow and blue wires from the diagram above.) This should trigger the gate to open. If it does not, there is a continuity problem in one of the two wires.

Gate code does not work

Verify the correct gate code in web portal.

Make sure to press “key” button to enter code.

Verify user the code is associated with code has permission to open gate.

Push To Call does not ring users

Verify users are defined in web portal and are members of the call group.

Verify users are logged into Watchman App. Usersneed to have the app AND be logged into the Appto receive calls.

External camera not powered Verify cabling and connections on camera and in the Watchman Unit

External camera is not taking pictures

Verify Ethernet cable is properly connected on the camera and on the Ethernet switch.

Verify Ethernet connection on switch is active. There are lights on top of the switch that should be lit for all connected devices.

Unit connection to web portal inconsistent

Check modem for signal strength

Check antenna connections on modem.

Verify power connections on modem

Appendix 1 – External Camera InstallationWatchman supports the installation of an external camera for the system. The camera supplied for Watchman is the Milesight IR Pro Bullet Network Camera. The Milesight camera is the ONLY supported camera.

WARNING: DO NOT MAKE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO CAMERA WITH THE SYSTEM ENERGIZED. THIS WILL DAMAGE THE CAMERA AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE CAMERA WARRANTY.

The Milesight device includes the following items:

When installing the camera, please make sure to run all connections in conduit. Also, make sure all camera connections are run with the rest of cables through the back of the Watchman unit.

DO NOT make any penetrations to the Watchman device. Any new penetrations of the Watchman devicewill void the warranty on the device and all the components inside it.

Appendix 2: Ethernet Cable Connector Please use the following diagram to wire the RJ-45 plug for Ethernet connections.

It is recommended you use EZ-RJ-45 connectors. This way you can confirm the correct color code after pulling the cables through.
