At New Home Bible StudiesNot long ago w e were discussing

here a t Bethel some of the questionstha t you have raised in connectionwith home Bible studies. I n nearlyevery case the answer t o the si tua-tion seemed to be t h a t each pub-lisher should feel f r ee to use hisown good judgment in decidingwhat would do the most to stimu-late interest o r to hasten progressin learning basic Bible truths.

To accomplish the most good,we need to learn to be flexible. There a r e persons wi th whom itis best to use just the i r Bible forseveral weeks to win the i r confi-

Ice before you ever direct theira ~ ~ e n t i o no the publications of theWatch Tower Society. Others may

gladly accept the l i te ra ture buthesitate to agree t o any regularstudy arrangement. Ra the r thanfeeling t h a t you have to s t a r t themright off in a s tudy of a book, whynot patiently show them t h a t theproblems and questions t h a t theya re most concerned about in lifea r e answered in the Bible? A t firstthey may be passive listeners, soyou have to size up the si tuat ionand select something t h a t you feelto be appropriate. B u t when peoples t a r t asking questions, i t is wiseto realize t h a t those questions arethe key to the i r interest in con-tinued discussions. Feel f ree to useany of the Society's publications,o r the Bible alone, to sat isfy thequestions t h a t a r e on their minds.

Frequently you will find tha tthe questions they ra ise a r e onest h a t a r e discussed in the publica-tions in your briefcase. If ybu feelt h a t i t would be beneficial to useone of those publications a s thebasis for your discussion, do so.I n some cases you may simply useit for reference; a t other times youmay be able to use the regular studyprocedure. Do not hesi tate to s t a r tw i th any chapter or any art icle inany of the Society's publications.Use whatever you feel will do themost to hold the householder's in-terest. The re is the 'Impossible toLie' book, wi th twenty-one differentchapter themes; fourteen more arefound in the Life Everlast ing book.Perhaps a "Your Word I s Tru th"art icle in Atoake has w h a t sou

    want, or maybe an issue of TheWatchtower o r one of the booklets,Then, too, you have "dlake S u r e ofAll Things; Hold F a s t t What I sFine," which se ts out choice textson 23 topics. The re a r e no rulest h a t say t h a t everyone must use apart icular publication or s t a r t ona certain page.

When you complete your dis-cussion of the householder's firstquestion, you may find tha t he hasa lot more. R a t h e r than telling th isnewly interested person tha t hewill have to wa i t unt i l you come totha t subject in the book, you mayfind t h a t h e will be moPe inclinedto wan t to have you continue call-ing if he is gett ing answers to thequestions t h a t a r e on his mind. The important thing is to help himto study the Bible regularly.

The questions asked by thehouseholder may have been coveredin several of the Society's publica-tions. Which should you use? T h a ti s up to you. I f you find t h a t youa r e better able to use one presenta-tion of the subject than another, select the publication tha t you pre-fer. They have a l l been preparedfor your use.

SO, there is no need to feel t h a tevery new study should s t a r t wi thchapter of the 'Impossible to Lie'book. The first three chapters oftha t book a r e specially designed tomeet the needs of certain types ofpeople. I f t h a t is w h a t i s best foryour call, use it. If i t will resultin more rapid progress fo r you toconcentrate on la ter chapters of the'Impossible t Lie' book or even touse another publication, do tha t .The important th ing is to focus a t -tention on the information t h a t i sbest suited to the needs of the indi-vidual.

When your s tudy is well estab-lished, it will not be difficult to goback and cover t h e topics t h a t mayhave been skipped a t a n earl ier d a t eand to do so in a systematic way.By the time the newly interestedone is ready for baptism, of course, you will want to be sure tha t hehas either studied wi th you, orpersonally read, both the books"Tizings in hich t I s Impossiblef o r God to Ilie" and Life Everlast-ing-in Freedom of the Solzs o God.

    ' S T T I T JEHCY- 'Recer T we discussed vacation pioneering

with three publishers in a congregation near the.Brooklyn Bethel. We thought you would be-interested in their comments. Try to picture-in your mind the individuals, and probably--ou will recognize one in circumstances similar

your own.The first comments about vacation pioneer-

came from a married sister with a 'sonIWU years old and a daughter four. Her hus-

%and is not one of Jehovah's witnesses. When&lied how she became a vacation pioneer, shesaid that at . a service meeting last March thecongregation servant had enthxisiastically en-couraged all in the congregation able to do sot e

enjoy the vacation pioneer activity in April.-.,Later she approached him and asked, "Do you. -+ink can do it with two children?" He men-

tioned the blessings she could receive, gaveher an application and s u ~-:sted that she give

t prayerful consideration. The sister told us that she was somewhat

eluctant, since caring for the children mightbe a problem. Her fleshly sister, though, urged

' her to "taste" of the vacation pioneer service-. and $'see that Jehovah is good." (Ps. 34:8 A

mgular pioneer in the congregation promised .

that she and others would help. Yet before*making the decision, the sister discussed it withher husband. He said that, as long as she was

,able to care for her household duties,. it warall right.

W i t h joy in her voice the sister told us thath e applied for vacation pioneer service, wasaccepted and had a marvelous month praisingZehovah. She .got a taste of 'how good pibneeringis. 'What about the children?' you wonder. She,

c exclaimed: "Everybody helped me " Yet it didmean effort on her part. She arose earlier inhe morning so she could do some cleaning andtill spend most of the morning in the ministry.

Sometimes other sisters cared for her son whilehp took her daughter in service. When asked

how the little girl liked being in the ministryso mach, the sister smiled and said, "She lovedit " The mother added that the theocratic Itivity, helped her to overcome the depressed

eelink she ha l a d from being in the house all .

day. I n fact, she said' the whole fWAAJlyenefitedfrom the happiness and peace of mind shegained.

Probably some of yea recognize in thisexample circumstances similar to your own. ThisMarch and April many 'sisters are going toshare in the special activity by vacation pio-neering. Have you thought about doing s your-self? If you could have been with us and secnthe happiness and contentment radiated by th,,sister when she thought back op her pioneerinqwe have no doubt that you too would long t,"taste" of this privilege. \

The other two publishers were also anxidusto relate their experiences. prie of them was .a

sixteen-year-old brother. He said that. before hewas baptized he had given some thought to vaca-tion pioneering, but he had to prait until he hadbeen baptized. Ecclesiastes 2 : l often came tohis mind. Even though h was still in schoola n d his father was not,in agreement with hiklfaith, he wanted to 'remember his grand Creatorin thq days of his young manhood.' As Aprilapproached, it seemed as though "everybody" inthe congregation was going to vacation pioneer, and thgse who were doing it for the second orthird time were filled with joy, just looking for-

ward to the experience. Yes, he figured hkwould try it also. His mother, who had helpedhim in Jehovah's sekvice, was happy to hear ofhis desire, and his father said it was all right ifthat was what. he, wanted.

But you h a y be wondering how he couldvacation pioneer, since he was still in' school. We asked 'him'that very question. He said thathe arranged it , so that the period during whiclihe pioneered would include the week off fromschool for spring vacakion. During that weekhe went in The field ministry both i n the mord-ings and' in the afternoons. When school startedagain, he* went in service in the morning, sincehe had classes, in the. afternoon and earlyevening. But he said that if he had had to go toschool in the morning,- he could have accom-plished the same by sharing in the service after.
