This project was made with 8 french pupils from the sustainable development group of the 5th form Chasles. They worked on it one hour a week from the beginning of January to mi-february 2013.The meeting was on Thursday before lunch.

They read and looked for information to tell the 11 others schools from Croatia and Greece who share this project.

Initially the aim was :

«TO KNOW THE BENEFITS OF WATER IN NUTRITION, TO KNOW THE PROPERTIES OF WATER RELATED TO PHYSIOTHERAPY, TO KNOW THE WATER SPORTS TO RAISE THEIR AWARENESS ON THE VALUE OF WATER AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO ACQUIRE WATER-FRIENDLY HABITS TO CHANGE ATTITUDES AND CONVICTIONS TO LOVE WATER AND EVERYTHING RELATED TO IT »

During our first session we looked at articles on the year of water to get ideas and started talking about what we wanted to present you. We thought that general ideas on the topic as well as local information would be interesting to share.

We first realized that water is extremely important. The 21st century is called the century of water and this year is the international year of water.

We are going to miss water because we waste it in rich countries. We must take care of it.

We started thinking about ways to save it.We can take the rain water or the snow for the toilet, to water the garden and the plants.

4 pupils in our group have got a water tank for the water from the roof at home.

Some of us think we could limit the consumption of water by putting a taxe or blocking it.

However water is already expensive. It is about 5 euros a cubic meter. Taking a shower uses between 60 and 80 litres but a bath uses 150 to 200 litres. So for one bath you can have three showers.

In our group most people have showers essentially but they sometimes have a bath.

Then we read an article about a school in the south of France.

They try to reduce the consumption of water. At the canteen they don’t change the jugs of water betwween the two meals at lunch time.

Lucas saw a documentary on TV about water. They said we need 11 000 litres of water to make a pair of jeans !Twenty-five recycled bottles save eight hundred kg of oil.

We must find solutions to recycle.

For exemple, in Théo’s family, they give clothes to his brother. We can also give them to a company to be recycled or to poor people.

In Lardy, people don't use pesticides in gardens and many gardening shop try to respect the environment.

Every day, more than two milliard of cubic meters of water are thrown into the rivers and the sea. It must be cleaned.

Water is also a way to make energy. We make energy with the sea like for the wind.

Adrien knows a place where they make some in France. It is clean and renewable .
