Did you know?

Water covers 70% of the earth, yet less than 1% is drinkable

This 1% is recycled thru the water cycle To survive, humans need 30 liters of

water – 5 for drinking and cooking, and 25 to keep clean

In some countries, many people only have 10 liters of water a day, but here in BC, the average person uses 600 litres a day!

In BC, we are lucky to be able to drink clean water from our tap, but in some countries, women and children have to walk hours to collect water that is often polluted.

In many countries , water is owned by private companies so the poorer citizens can not afford to pay for it

7 million people die each year from illnesses caused by drinking polluted water

Every 3 seconds a child dies from drinking dirty water.

BUT WHAT CAN WE DO?

Take action

Don’t waste water Protect our water Keep water free for all as a basic

human right Don’t buy bottled water

At home we can :

take shorter showers, not baths stop leaky faucets install low-flow toilets don’t run the water when brushing teeth wash your car on the grass or wait for

rain wash only full loads of dishes and clothes

At school

Don’t let the taps run Collect rainwater in rain barrels to

use in our gardens Fix leaky taps Bring reusable water bottles NOT

throwaway plastic bottles

Install low-flow toilets

Help others less fortunate to obtain a safe water source

Beyond our community:

Remember… Water is Life !

So…

help the Skyhawk Green Team fundraise for the community of Chicxulub, in Yucatan Mexico. We have pledged to raise $3000 to provide a reliable water source to grow food for Father Lorenzo’s Food Bank. This local gathering place provides over 90 meals daily for families in need. We can make a difference!

Here is how we are going to do it:

1 - sell stainless steel reusable water bottles for $102 - sell tree seedlings from Forest Nation for $53 - host a special Golf Tournament at Kinkora Golf Course in honor of Wayne Dehnke – the inspiration for this project.

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world, indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”

-Margaret Mead

Thank you!
