We all assume that when we turn on our faucets, clean water will be instantly available – right? What if your neighbor just had some landscape work done and pesticides and fertilizers had made their way into your pipes? Or another neighbor’s boiler treatment and clean-up chemicals had found their up and down the street? These examples of inadvertent contamination show the critical need for backfl ow prevention – and this half-day course will introduce you to the basics. Course instructor Ray Vanisko (who teaches on this topic in our summer-long training course for those seeking to become NJ Health Inspectors and Sanitarians) will show you the wide and varied types of equipment available – and review loads of real life case studies that will really make you think!

Succession planning is an essential part of the business planning process that ensures that individuals are continually developed to step into key roles in a company. A lack of suffi cient candidates to replace incumbents in critical positions puts the future continuity and performance of the business at risk. In the new one-day course, will dig deeper into succession planning: what it entails, what the development component means for you and any staff who report to you, and what to do when succession planning identifi es gaps in the company’s “bench” of available talent. As a manager, supervisor or individual contributor who aspires to advance in the water, wastewater and related industries, you should recognize the value of succession planning and know how it works. Through small group discussions and entertaining interactive exercises, this course will help you do that. In addition, you will acquire tools for taking control of your professional development, developing others and creating a strategy for building bench strength.

This hands-on workshop, has been designed to provide an introduction to laboratory techniques for the analysis of corrosion control parameters in water and wastewater operations. The step-by-step processes for analyzing, such as parameters, pH, temperature, conductivity and hardness will be presented. For each parameter, the theory of measurement will be presented and discussed, as well as the real world implications of the measurements derived. Calibration, verifi cation, and troubleshooting techniques will be discussed and practiced in a relaxed setting where interaction and questions are encouraged.
