DIRECTOR’S NOTESHello, and thanks for coming to our

production of Miracle on 34th Street. As a child there were always certain

harbingers of Christmas that, like robins in the spring, I always looked forward to. Among the melee of holiday programs with such notables characters as Charlie Brown, George Bailey, Ebenezer Scrooge, Suzy Snowflake, and Hardrock, Coco & Jo, the characters of Kris Kringle and Susan are anticipated luminaries on this list and seem to be the “starting pistol” for the Christmas season.

While we watched the Macy’s Thanks-giving Day parade on TV, my mother would share recollections of her childhood in NYC, and the Macy’s parade. Then we would watch football and Miracle on 34th Street.

This is what started the month long holiday season for me. It wasn’t the snow, although there seemed to be more of it back then. It wasn’t the downtown decorations and storefronts, although

there also seemed to be more back then. It wasn’t the “month of making my bed” and being nicer to my sisters to demon-strate my worthiness to be on the nice list, although if you ask my sisters there probably wasn’t enough of it back then. It was the beginning of all the entertainment leading up to the big day.

We were the first generation of TV viewers and the four stations made sure we had enough “Christmas Spirit” to go around.

I, being a firm believer, love watching this movie. It always makes me feel good, feel festive and feel reaffirmed in my belief and now recalls all those memories of those wonderful days.

It is my hope that our production of this timeless classic will help you recall similar times, simpler, less cluttered holiday spirit known as childhood.

And yes, in case you wondered, I still believe. Happy holidays, Stewart

St Peter’s Episcopal Church, Sycamore, Antiques, Vintage, Collectibles and Gifts, Downtown DeKalb, MCR Framing, Gordon Hardware, Roberta Maxfield, Brian Maxfield, G. Scott Morris, Doherty family, Laura Hunyard – seamstress for Kris Kringle, Janet Rosenberg – designer/creator of the elf costumes, Bryan Olson for the program cover art, Kelly Hoyle and Teresa Scharp for their sewing and design skills.

To the cast for bringing in numerous

costume pieces that take us all back to 1947.

A special thanks to our “elves” for introducing the show each night: Bill Nicklas, Rev. Dave Hedges, Tim Coleman, Tom Pearcy, Aaron George

We are grateful to the parents of our elves. Thank you for allowing your child to experience the joy and fun of life on the stage, however brief it may have been.

“Faith is believing when common sense tells you not to” -Fred Gayley

Thanks to the folks who helped make our journey a fun one!
