Watercolor and Chinese Painting Workshop By Lian Zhen – North Light Books’ popular painting instruction book author August 8 to 12, 2011, Nekoosa, Wisconsin Nekoosa High School 500 Cedar Street Lian Zhen: A former family physician from China, MIT graduate, and a well known art teacher. His art teaching experiences include the University of California at Berkeley where he taught watercolor outdoor sketching for 8 years; watercolor and Chinese painting workshops nationwide in US, as well as in Europe, Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, China, South Africa and Australia. He has been an invited juror for California, Colorado, New Mexico and Kentucky Watercolor Societies' exhibitions and other local shows. His paintings have been featured in magazines such as Watercolor 94 Spring, Splash4, Collectors (Hong Kong) and books of Landscape on Watercolor (UK) and Finding Your Visual Voice (US). North Light has published three of his books and features his paintings in other 5 books. Detail information and sample paintings can be found on his web site: www.lianspainting.com. Workshop Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:00pm with one hour lunch. Cost $325 : Make check payable to Lian Zhen, and send to Laurie Tenpas, 11487 County Road Z, Nekoosa, WI 54457 by June 1, 2011 *(for 3 graduate credits through Viterbo University add $270 extra for a total of $595 ($270 check to Viterbo will be collected the first day of class) Monday to Wednesday: Chinese painting on accordion book and rice papers, including 1 day outdoor at a garden and 2 days in studio. Thursday and Friday: Watercolor – subject determined by class member’s preference such as architecture or people. Materials: at the bottom on the Workshops page on Lian’s web site: www.lianspainting.com . The accordion book (about 10 inch by 12 feet) can be purchase at the class for $20.00 each. During the 3 rd day of Chinese painting students explore Chinese painting techniques on ricepaper. Lian will show them how to sketch flowers and plants on the book “plein aire” in a local garden and continue painting in the studio the second day (see above sample painting on an accordion book). During the 3rd day of Chinese painting students explore Chinese painting techniques on ricepaper. For the 2-day watercolor painting session, Lian will teach basic techniques such as compositions and coloring. He will also demonstrate his techniques for the "Color pouring and blending" using three primary colors.
