Waterswelling Sealing Materials
High demands are made on sealing materials to guarantee reliable sealing in con-structions - both in new constructions as well as in repair works.
Not only must special attention be paid to guaranteeing a reliable seal but also to factorssuch as easy and clean application, permanent watertightness, and last but not least, totime and cost-effective installation.
ADEKA ULTRA SEAL is a waterswelling sealing material based on natural rubber whichperfectly meets the above mentioned demands. The natural rubber is cross-linked withhydrophilic components which permits the controlled swelling ability of ADEKA ULTRASEAL.
The material´s resistance to deformation and optimum rubber elastic characteristicsensure a high expansion rate and tensile strength.
Due to the high contact pressure exerted, ADEKA ULTRA SEAL products can even beapplied for sealing against a water pressure of 8 bar without any risk of the sealing profilebeing extracted from the joint. This fact even allows an installation where there is a con-tinuous change in water level.
High elasticity, continuous and controlled swelling characteristics, excellent restorability,extraordinary elongation of the natural rubber, as well as the long-lasting quality of ADEKAULTRA SEAL products are properties which guarantee a durable sealing of joints.
The ADEKA ULTRA SEAL product range covers sealing profiles in various dimensions, aswell as pasty and liquid materials, which enables an optimum sealing in numerous fields ofapplication in structural and civil engineering.

Before curing P-201 is extremely malleable and can therefore be employed in amultiple of applications.
This pasty material completes the wide range of ADEKA ULTRA SEAL sealingprofiles. It can be applied in combination with the sealing profiles, or even as asealing material itself. P-201 as a sealant is recommended in all those caseswhere sealing with profiles is not possible.
P-201 adheres excellently to concrete, steel, PVC etc. and can be applieddirectly to the surface without a primer.
In combination with P-201 the sealing profiles can also be applied to dampsurfaces.

2. Application Instructions2.1. Surface preparations
The surface must be
- watertight- free of cavities, honey combs, cracks- free of ice (air temperature can be below 0°C)
Remove still water, cement slurry, dust and other dirt.
2.2. Installation of ADEKA ULTRA SEAL sealing profiles
Dry and even surfaces
Sealing profiles can be applied with ITEC ULTRA BOND contact adhesive. Apply contactadhesive evenly and thinly with a paint brush to the cleaned surface to the full length ofthe sealing profile to be installed and also at the same time to the sealing profile. Allow thecontact adhesive to air (about 1 - 15 min. - depending on the environmental temperature)until it is no longer stringy to touch. Then press the sealing profile firmly onto the surface.
Check for correct adhesion of the sealing profile. Any gaps between the sealing profileand the surface should be backfilled with P-201.
Damp and/or uneven surfaces
Install the sealing profiles with ADEKA ULTRA SEAL P-201. Apply P-201 evenly to theclean surface to the full length of the sealing profile to be fixed. Press the sealing profileonto the surface until the paste oozes out on both sides.
Check for correct adhesion of the sealing profile. Any gaps between the sealing profileand the surface should be backfilled with P-201.
Curing time of P-201 depends on the air temperature. Generally, fresh concrete can bepoured after approx. 24 hours. Should concreting become necessary before P-201 hascompletely cured, the sealing profile should be nailed to the surface (intervals approx. 20- 25 cm).

2.3. Corner areas and butt joints of sealing profiles
All corner areas and butt joints of the sealing profiles must be sealed with ADEKA ULTRASEAL P-201.
Any gaps between the sealing profiles must always be filled with P-201.
After fixing the first sealing profile P-201 is applied to the side of the sealing profile alongthe entire butt joint area. The second sealing profile is then placed and fixed firmly againstthe first sealing profile.

The sealing profile MC-2010M is provided with an inner metal mesh which preventslongitudinal expansion of the profile during the swelling process. It is therefore particularlysuited for application to horizontal surfaces (connection wall/floor slabs) where still watermight be in the joint area after fixing the profile and before concreting.
By blocking the longitudinal expansion MC-2010M will increase in thickness further andthereby augment the contact pressure vertically in the joint.

When installing KM-3030 in combination with P-201 to vertical surfaces or overhead,safeguard the profile from falling. This can be done with dowels. Dowels and screw nailsmust be sunk into the profile, so that the profile is not prevented from swelling. The re-maining gap must be filled with P-201.

Instructions for repairing and sealing exisiting joints with P-201
Thoroughly remove the existing filling material up to at least the required depth "T" of P-201.
Remove dust and other dirt (glue, asphaltic bitumen etc.) from joint edges.
Apply P-201 in several layers into the joint, and press firmly against the joint surface andjoint edges with a spatula, leaving no gaps. Care must be taken that the minimumthickness "D" is maintained. If the filling material consists of an expanded polystyreneboard or similar we recommend placing a thin strip of foam material into the joint beforeapplying P-201, so that the joint surface is clean.
Place a round profile of foam material into the joint and press against P-201.
The surface of the joint can be covered with a suitable pourable elastic sealing compound.If necessary place additional filling material into the joint.

The surface of the joint can be covered with a suitable pourable elastic sealing compound.Place additional filling material into the joint.

Instructions for sealing pipe installations with KM-STRING
Thoroughly remove dust and other dirt from joint edges.
Place filling material to the required depth "T" of KM-STRING.
Apply P-201 to both edges of the joint, close to the surface.
