Dr. Boyd:

I am informed that you sent an email to Mr. George Beck this afternoon stating that I do not represent ASU as an attorney. Specifically, you stated the following:

"Mr. Donald Watkins does not represent Alabama State University. As President of ASU I have not signed any contract or agreement for Mr. Watkins to represent Alabama State University. I do not receive counsel or advice from Mr. Watkins. Mr. Watkins is not an employee of Alabama State University.

You know that I was hired by Dr. Harris in December 2013 to represent ASU on a number of legal matters, including my interaction with the U.S. Attorneys office and FBI. You have been briefed on these matters on multiple occasions. My retention as counsel has been confirmed to you since you assumed the presidency on February 1st.

On April 3, 2014, you acknowledged my engagement and stated in writing that you did not have the authority to disengage my services. Your public statement today that I do not represent ASU is false and defamatory. I am requesting that you issue a retraction of your statement today to Mr. Beck and to the general public.
