Watseka First United Methodist Church ‘Moving with Jesus into the community to share God’s Love’
A Prayer for the 4th . . .
Loving God, we thank you — the true Father of our country — for the bless-
ings of this land and the gifts of cultures
around the world. Prompt us to strive for
justice for all, at home and abroad. Re-
mind us, in the words of the hymn, that
“this is our Father's world” and that your
goodness prevails. Amid tragedies and
conflicts, guard us against despair. Help
us focus on the kindness evident daily:
from generous neighbors to conscientious
public servants (because most are). On
Independence Day and every day, “O let
[us] ne’er forget that though the wrong
seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler
yet.” Amen.
—Sandy Hyland

4th of July Parade walkers needed
We will be having a truck in the pa-rade this year, and we will need walkers. The parade is on the 4th of July and starts at 10 a.m. Line-up is at the Watseka High School. For more details, phone Kim Onnen at 815-383-0987.
Church Council Notes -
The Visioning Team held a prayer walk and a ban-ner was placed in the sanctuary for the congregation to post their visions and hopes for the future. The team will bring a draft of a plan to a future church council meet-ing. MOPS held another Monicals Fundraiser and has received generous support from the community. Sum-mer playdates in the park are planned and meetings will resume September 18. A Bible study on the Book of Job will begin June 3. There are a few spots open for
the summer music schedule. The Pancake Breakfast in the Park on May 18 brought in 35-40 people and baskets of chocolate and flowers were taken to the staffs of local nurs-ing homes on May 19. The Mother-Daughter Banquet was well attended and the Barbershop Quartet Interlude packed the sanctuary. Pastor Kara
Berg accepted the position as our new Pastor and intro-ductory information was passed out to the congrega-tion. Her arrival date is not yet known. Pastor Bob will be leaving on July 1. A workday on June 1 is planned for clean-up and landscaping both at the church and the parsonage. The tuckpointing on the side of the building is almost complete and some areas inside the sanctuary are in need of repainting. There is now online giving available with information available on the church’s web-site.
Rummage Sale soon approaching!
The semi-annual United Methodist Women Rum-mage Sale will soon be here--Friday, Sept. 13 and Sat-urday, Sept. 14. Work days will be during the week September 9-12. Rummage may be brought to the church after August 26 and placed on the stage in the Fellowship Hall (not in the northwest lower classroom, please). Co-chairs of the sale are DeDe Yenerich, Ka-ren Sutfin, Brooke Storm, Debby Sapp, and Diann Pea-body. Please contact them if you have questions about the sale and/or are willing to work during the work days or sale days. Your help will be greatly appreciated!
Church Carnival plans announced
Plans are being made to host a free Family Fun Carnival at our church on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 3-6 p.m. Everyone is welcome! Festivities will take place on the empty lot to the west of the church. Activities will include an inflatable bounce house and water slide, face painting, games and crafts. Food will be served during the event. The purpose of the carnival is reaching out to the community to share God’s love. Please be on the look-out for information about help an supplies that will be needed.

Clip & Save –
Remember to clip your Box Tops for Education which are given to the Unit Nine grade schools. Money received from them is used to purchase needed school sup-plies. Also, postage stamps that are
clipped from letters (1/4” around all sides) are sent to a
mission that uses the funds from the sale of the stamps
to ship needed supplies to 3rd World Countries. Stamps
and box tops may be deposited in the wooden box locat-
ed under the stairs in the office hallway.
Children’s Activity Bags available Jalyn Newman has made a number of activity bags
for children attending worship services. These bags are
available in the narthex for anyone with young children
who needs something to occupy them during worship.
The bags contain a small snack, crayons, coloring page,

We thank Jalyn for providing this service.

Watseka Area Food Pantry - During May we served 112 families—245 adults and
101 children. Special items for donation in July are
canned fruits—peaches and pineapple being the
most popular!
Our trailer was damaged beyond repair from recent
storms. Thanks to Chuck Peabody and Jim Ward for
making a trip to Morris and purchasing another trailer for
our trips to Bloomington.
The Illinois Indian RV group made another visit to
the pantry on Friday, June 21. They helped package,
date, and box up items as well as donating items and
monetary gifts to the food pantry.
Eastern Illinois Foodbank delivery is Tuesday, July
2 at 8 a.m. We will arrive back from Midwest Foodbank
around 11 a.m. on Friday, July 12. All volunteers are
