May 23 Last Day of School
The 2018-2019 school year is off to a great start in which the staff and students have developed a successful routine. Our student enrollment has remained consistent with waiting lists in several grades. We are blessed that our local community sees Cathedral as the best school to educate their children. Our administration, faculty, staff, and parents strive to lead students on a path of spiritual, emotional, social, and physical growth.
As an alumna, I am extremely grateful and excited to be a part of the Cathedral family. The faculty, staff, students, and parents have welcomed me with open arms; and I know this is where I am meant to be. Cathedral is an amazing school, and I am looking forward to maintaining the positive culture and high expectations.
Cathedral is blessed to have alumni and parents who continually show support for our school. Cathedral holds such a special place in all of our hearts, and this will continue for years to come. We are one of the oldest educational institutions in the country because of the support we receive from so many wonderful people. With the
help of alumni and supporters, we will make sure the Cathedral legacy and tradition live on.
On behalf of the Cathedral Community, I want to thank everyone who volunteered, bought tickets, and donated items for the 2018 Fall Festival. We especially want to thank Lee and Hyde Carby and Laura and Scott McLemore, our chairs, for doing a fabulous job! The Chairs for 2019 will be Laura and Scott McLemore and Sarah and Aaron Smith. We can’t wait for next year!
In mid-November we will kick off the Cathedral School Annual Giving Campaign, and we look forward to another year of your continued support. This campaign was established as a foundation of fundraising efforts for the school.
Last year, science modules were purchased for elementary through high school classes thanks to your generous donations. This year’s campaign will purchase purpose-built, sanitary cafeteria tables to replace the existing folding tables. All gifts make a difference.
From The Principal's Office Calendar of Events
Cathedral continues to have a remarkable faculty and staff that contribute to its superior education and positive family atmosphere. Every member of our Cathedral community believes in the success of all students. The elementary opened a third section of PreK 3 and added a teacher assistant in PreK 4. These additions help decrease the teacher/student ratio in the classrooms and increase student achievement.
We are truly appreciative of your support as we look forward to the remainder of this school year. It is our hope that when you are in Natchez, you will visit the school and afford us the opportunity of showing you around. Our benefactors and alumni are continuously in our thoughts and prayers.
Blessings,Kimberly Huff Burkley (’98)Assistant AdministratorPreK 3-5 Principal

LOSING BOTH Mr. Sonny Sanguinetti and Spencer Allen has been a loss for Cathedral School alumni. Within the span of a week, we lost the heart and the soul of the school. During the time I was there, 1991-2015, Mr. Sonny was, to me, the heartbeat of the school. He helped to make me and my family a part of the Cathedral family. His smiling face and willingness to always try to "fix" things, his adage of "always give back more than you receive," showed me that his heart was... all encompassing. Spencer, who graduated with Rodney in the Class of 2003, had more courage than anyone I know. Even with all his medical problems, Spencer never voiced his discomfort or pain. He faced each day with determination, and with his quick wit and dry sense of humor, he brought smiles to all around him. He faced his life with bravery and grace and I, for one, will never forget him. He was the soul of Cathedral. With both men, I know the choirs of Angels were there to greet them! May God wrap their families in his loving arms and bring comfort and peace to all! Rest in peace, Mr. Sonny and Spencer!

The Cathedral buddy program is a mentoring program that begins with a kindergarten and a junior-class student. At the beginning of the school year, buddies are matched and the mentoring fun begins! The students this
year have painted pumpkins, had Thanksgiving lunch together, and shared many other activities. The following year as first-graders and seniors, they begin the year together at the back-to-school mass in St. Mary Basilica with the first-graders taking their first steps into school mass with their buddies in hand. The kindness of our students shines through.
A FOSS workshop was held in the Middle School Science Lab for our teachers to be introduced to the new curriculum. The new resources were purchased thanks to the generous donations made to the 2017–2018 Annual Giving Campaign.
