WhenWavesTuneReal-Timeisinsertedintoatrackofanaudiosequenceroreditor,itdetectsthesignal’spitch,determineswhatthetargetpitch
shouldbe,andthencorrectstothenearestlegalnote.
Theplugindetectsandcorrectspitchveryeffectivelyandofferspowerfulcontrolstobringthebestresults.Butitcan’toffera“one-size-fits-all”solution
that’sgoodforeverycondition.Itcannotpredictavocalist’sintentionsormakewisechoicesifitdoesn’tknowsomethingaboutthemusic.Improperly
set,thepluginmaycorrecttonotesthatareperfectlylegal,butarenotinthedesiredscale.Themoreyou’refamiliarwiththesongandthevocalist’s
abilities,andthemoreyou’reinvolvedintheprocess,thebetteryoucanuseWavesTuneReal-Timetogetthedesiredresults.
Theplugindoesnotprocesspolyphonicsounds.
1.4 Latency
WavesTuneReal-Timereportszerolatencytoanyhost.However,delaycanbeimposedbythedetection/correctionprocess.Thelatencyisdynamic,
from0msto4ms,basedonthepitch/frequencyofthecurrentinputnote.Lower-pitchedsoundshavelongerperiodsthandohigher-pitchedsounds,
sotheirlatencyislonger.
1.5 Components
WaveShelltechnologyenablesustosplitWavesprocessorsintosmallerplugins,whichwecallcomponents.Havingachoiceofcomponentsfora
particularprocessorgivesyoutheflexibilitytochoosetheconfigurationbestsuitedtoyourmaterial.

Speed Setsthecorrectionspeed,inmilliseconds.Itdefinestheattackincorrectingasustainedpitchthat’sdriftingoutoftune.Fastervaluesresultinrapid

Theprimarypurposeofthesecontrolsistoeliminatenotetransitionglitchescausedbysmallirregularitiesinasinger’sperformance.Duetothe
accuracyoftheinternalpitchdetector,eventhesmallestpitchvariationoutsidethelegalboundariesofanintendedpitchwillresultincorrectiontothe
nextlegalnote.TheCentsandTimecontrolsallowyoutosethowmuchpitchvariance,andforhowlong,youwanttoallowthesingerbefore
correctionbegins.
WhenaScaleisdefinedorchosen,theintervalsbetweenlegalnotesmaybecome“wider.”Tolerancesettingscanbeusedtolocallyincreasethiswidth
evenmore.

ThevalueoftheCentssettingisaddedtothemarginbetweenadjacentnotesthattriggerspitchcorrection.Inthechromaticscale,forexample,this
half-waypointis50cents.SoiftheCentssettingis10centsandTimecontrolisOff,thenthetargetnotewillchangeonlyoncethedetectednotediffers
byatleast60centsfromthenote,andnot50.
Time
Thissetstheamountoftimethatanotemustholdbeyondthe50centspitchdetectionthresholdtoallowNote Transition tooccur.Soif
Timeissetto100ms,andCentscontrolisOff,thenNoteTransitiontimewillkickinonlyafterthenotepasses+/-50centsfor100ms.
Brief,intentional,vocalembellishmentscanresultinunwantedcorrectioniftoleranceisnotsetappropriately.Settingsdependlargelyontheaccuracy
ofthesingerandthedesiredeffect.
• Withawell-trainedvocalist,youwouldwanttokeepthesevaluesloworoffmostofthetime.
• Withalessstable,orfatigued,vocalistyoumaywanttousehighervalues.
Generally,tolerancepreventscorrectiontoadifferenttargetfromthepreviouslydetectednote,eitherbyincreasingtherangefromthepreviously
detectednote,orwaitingthedesiredamountoftimeoutsidethestipulatedrange.
IMPORTANT:Definingthecorrectscaleofthesongwillmakemostlegalnotes“wider”andprotectthemfromglitchesbetweenneighboringnotes.Set
theScaleandNoteTransitionfirst,andonlythenaddresstheTolerancesettings,ifnecessary.IncreasedTolerancesettingsdo,essentially,makeanote
wider,sinceCentsandTimecandelaythestartofnotecorrection.
BewareofveryhighToleranceCentsandToleranceTimesettings.LargeTolerancesettingsmayyieldunwantedresultsinasectionofa
scalewheretwoconsecutivehalfnotesarelegal.Oftenasingeraddsshortnuancesinpitch.Settingvaluesthataretoohighmight
“enforce”orflattencorrection,anddefeatwhatthesingerhadintended.Whentherearelargeintervalsbetweenlegalnotes,higher
