Undocumented Problems Resolved in Release 5.1.11

Alarms • Problem:

J0 mismatch alarm raised in Metropolis Enhanced Optical Networking (EON)® OLS40/80G when interworking with OC48.

OC48 Compatible/PassiveOptics

• Problem:

Affected packs LEY50-65(AE), LEY80-95(AE), and LEY101-180(AE). Some of the above packs could have the wavelengths and power levels deviated from the desired value which was programmed during manufacturing. This does not occur on every pack. Problem is resolved with Release 5.1.11, which will return the wavelength and power level to the manufactured specifications.

SNMS • Problem:

Performing a Dynamic DNO from the SNMS to the Network Element with the TL1-Translation Device (T-TD) does not always result in a successful network configuration database.

Network Element Problems Resolved in Release 5.1.11

Administration/SoftwareDownload

• Problem 4GA-12:

When executing three or more software downloads through a single DCC channel, the software download may not complete.

Alarms • Problem 4GA-3:

When an OC-12 port is provisioned for adaptive mode carrying STS-3 payload in a 1+1 protection group, the severity of the first tributary is reported as a critical alarm when it should be reported as a minor alarm. The severity of the other three tributaries is correctly reported as minor.

• Problem 5GA-1:

If an ALS alarm is reported on the OBPA circuit pack and the unit is extracted, the ALS alarm will not clear.

• Problem 5GA-2:

LOP-P is not reported on a Fixed Port when inserting a higher rate signal into a port that exceeds the cross-connect rate.

• Problem 5GA-25:

After upgrading, the ASAP of type OCn/EC1 port is reporting NULL_ALARM for most alarm types.

Data CommunicationChannel/DCCEI Circuit

Pack

• Problem 4GA-1:

If 1+1 DCC Protection Mode is enabled on an optical protection group when only one DCC channel is enabled (usually the working port) and that port is not the active port (i.e. protection is active), the DCC will not be 1+1 protected.

• Problem 4.0.2/4.1.2-1:

After a power cycle or system reset, the DCC channels may not initialize properly, causing the alarm "DCC failure" to be reported.

• Problem 5GA-17:

After DCC reset, MDI/MDO does not work correctly.

DRI • Problem 4GA-4:

When setting up a DRI cross-connection, the system will not allow you to set the Wait-to-Restore=0 and the holdofftime=0.

Equipment Management • Problem 5GA-26:

When adding a EQPT ASAP, selecting all circuit packs of this type, this shelf will result in all circuit packs, all types being provisioned. After applying the change, the system will report a SROF error message, even though the changes take place.

General • Problem 5GA-21:

No information on loopbacks can be retrieved for ports involved in protection. As a consequence they cannot be released.

Gigabit Ethernet • Problem 5GA-30:

When GE1/SX is only carrying service on port 1, the pack may not initialize after an upgrade or power cycle of the system.

Performance Monitoring • Problem 4GA-6:

Executing the RTRV-PM-X command returns all parameters when only one parameter is requested.

• Problem 4GA-8:

Executing the command DLT-TCA-PROF with pftype=PATH can delete a new assigned TCA (Threshold Crossing Alert) profile.

• Problem 4GA-9:

When executing the RTRV-TCA-ASGNMNT command with pftype=PATH, the command does not work for a new TCA (Threshold Crossing Alert) profile at the path layer.

• Problem 4GA-10:

QOS (Quality of Service) message for T3 does not differentiate between NEND In and NEND Out.

• Problem 4GA-13:

PSD (Protection Switch Duration) is not being reported for OC192 2F BLSR setup.

• Problem 5GA-7:

The PLM-P defect on the DS3 output is always active. The result of this is that the UASP Send Out Performance Monitor counter also increases in the case of a correct signal.

• Problem 5GA-8:

Default TCA profiles show 0 for all registers after upgrade.

Synchronization • Problem 4GA-11:

When the network element reboots after a power restart, if the active timing reference is Line2, it does not send DUS (Don’t use Sync Messaging) out on the port assigned to Line2.

It sends the current System Quality level. The other port assigned to line reference, Line1, sends out DUS. Line1 should be sending out the current System Quality level.

• Problem 4GA-14:

When the network element reboots after a power restart and if the active timing reference line is disconnected, the signal status shows ‘Normal’ instead of ‘Failed’ and the input quality level status shows ‘Invalid’ instead of ‘Not Applicable’. This only happens when you have two OC-192 line references assigned.

• Problem 5GA-12:

If line timing references on an OC-192 shelf are not provisioned in ascending order in R5.0.1/5.1.1, then both timing references will fail if either TMG pack is removed.

Transmission • Problem 5GA-14:

Conversion of cross-connects with adjunct does not work properly.

Problem 5GA-16:

When an OC192 pack is provisioned with Outband Strong Forward Error Correcting (SFEC) or Automatice Laser Shutdown (ALS), going through a power cycle will result in the circuit pack being initialized as default. The provisioning will still show the provisioned values.

For the Outband SFEC this means: back to inband FEC (SFEC disabled)

For the ALS this means: ALS is activated.

Upgrade • Problem 5GA-13:

Upgrading a 10G system that has Outband SFEC error correction enabled (or if SFEC was ever provisioned) on the OC-192 circuit packs will result in the loss of traffic on the provisioned circuit pack. Does not affect 2.5G systems or new installation of 10G system.

Alarms • Problem 5GA-3:

The NE will not report Payload Label Mismatch (PLM-P) when it receives Signal Label values other than: Unequipped, Equipped, Non-Specific Asynchronous Mapping for DS3.

Workaround:

Manually check that the payload matches the input signal.

• Problem 5GA-24:

Miscellaneous Discrete Output-1 may not operate properly after reseating the DCCEI circuit pack, on some occasions. MDOs 2-8 operate as expected.

Workaround:

After reseating the DCCEI circuit pack, provision MDO-1 to the default state, then re-provision MDO-1 to the required state again.

General • Problem 5GA-28:

Trace value set at the DS3 port during a cross-connection cannot be retrieved at an optical port.

Workaround:

View trace value at DS3 port.

• Problem 5GA-31:

OC-12 far-end port loopback (outloop) unreliable when far-end port has a LOS condition.

A path to a (far-end) OC-12 port may suffer from severe BER-failures when tested with a far-end port loopback and while the port has no input signal applied. This behavior is applicable to all OC-12 card types.

Workaround:

Ensure optical signal is applied to far-end port or use physical port loopback.

General • Problem 6GA-10:

TCP/IP GUI user appears as though it is not logged off after inactivity period has expired. User cannot do any provisioning but still looks like the login is active.

Workaround:

Disable login inactivity, or reconnect after the inactivity period has expired.

• Problem 6GA-24:

When FT-TD is used to create a backup of the NE Database and the TCP/IP connection is broken during the transfer of a file, the CIT FTP server keeps the file open forever. As a consequence the file can not be deleted. After restoring the TCP/IP connection and starting a new backup this will result in an error because the file still exists.

Workaround:

The CIT FTP server has a time-out function. After a certain time the file will be closed by the CIT. It is then possible to delete the file and start a new backup.

Feature Adjustments

Introduction The problems and workarounds listed below have been determined by Lucent Technologies as the system behaving as expected or not reproducible in this release.

Performance Monitoring • Problem 4.0.0-4:

Performance Monitoring data is lost (will be dropped) when performing a manual switch on DS3. Be aware that when a 1xn protection switch takes place, the cumulative PM counts will not be carried to the protection pack. However, the working pack will still have the totals unless the pack was pulled. This is true within a 15 minute interval.

Workaround:

Generate and retain PM reports prior to performing a manual switch.

Adjustments:

System is behaving per requirements.

• Problem 4GA-7:

ES-PFE (Error Seconds - Path Far End), SES-PFE (Severely Errored Seconds - Path Far End) and UAS-PFE (Unavailable Seconds - Path Far End) do not increment for RDI-P (Remote Defect Indicator - Path) on OC-3 and OC-12

Adjustments:

These parameters are not supported for RDI-P on OC-3 and OC-12.

• Problem 4GA-5:

B3 count and REI (Remote Error Indication) counts are not provided in the SONET PTF (Path Terminated Function) for DS3 port units.

Workaround:

To retrieve SONET CV-P (Coded Violation - Path (B3)) and CV-PFE (Coded Violation - Path Far End (REI-P)) counts, use STS-1 Path PM for the tributary cross-connected to the DS3 output.

To retrieve CV-P parity error counts for the DS3 Path, use the DS3 Outgoing Near End Path PM.

Adjustments:

System is behaving per requirements.

• Problem 5GA-4:

On a monitored port that has no input signal, both the SEFS-S and LOSS-S PM parameters increase. In this situation, only the LOSS-S parameter should increase.

Workaround:

Ignore the SEFS-S parameter when the LOSS-S parameter increases.

Adjustments:

System is behaving per requirements.

Data CommunicationChannel/DCCEI Circuit

• Problem 4GA-2:

When executing rtrv-fecom, the “chanstat” parameter may report ‘GOOD’ when it should report ‘FAILED’, or report ‘FAILED’ when it should report ‘UNEQUIPPED’.

Workaround:

Use system alarms and neighbor maps to determine the status of a DCC channel.

Adjustments:

The chanstat parameter is not supported.

Feature Specific Information

Introduction This section will describe specific implementation of some of the new features of the WaveStar® TDM 2.5G/10G system.

TCP/IP Connecting to the WaveStar® Network Element

The WaveStar® CIT connection to NE via TCP/IP is done using default port number 3082 only. The T-TD Raw port number should not be changed in the TCP/IP Gateway provisioning screen.

Change the Advertise field for the LOCAL route from NO to YES

When local router values are changed, an error message is shown to the user, which should be ignored since operation will be completed after it.

IP Tunneling

When provisioning IP Tunneling, make sure the IP address, Default Router Address, and Subnetmask are provisioned properly.

Automatic Laser Shutdown(ALS)

ALS is only required for interfaces that use an Optical Booster Amplifier (SEN3, Long Reach) or an Optical Booster Pre-Amplifier (SEN4, Very Long Reach). The ALS feature is also supported on the OC-192 optical port units. ALS can be enabled/disabled using the CIT’s port provisioning command.

Adjust for the port and required FEC type for that port in case of outband FEC.

Important! The ALS feature only applies to the OC-192 optical port units, but ALS must be disabled for OLS 400G compatible optics (LEY201-LEY240) or an external optical booster amplifier.

CIT Help Files The WaveStar® CIT provides help files to be used in provisioning the Network Element. In areas that do not provide help information, the User Guides should be used to provide provisioning information.

Dual Ring Interworking DRI is not supported on the protection tributaries of a BLSR ring.

Password Aging When using password aging, the time set for expiration must exceed a 24-hour period before it will expire.

Corrections

Information The problems listed below were incorrectly documented in the previous SRD. The correct descriptions are listed in Chapter 3.

• Problem 5GA-18:

Although Protection Switching with a PPG name is possible, It is not possible for the user to be able to perform a release on all cross connections, using the PPG name only.

Workaround:

Release the Protection Switch using the AID, not the name for the individual path.

• Problem 5GA-22:

It is not possible to change settings from Level 1&2 to Level 1.

Workaround:

Use cut through command:

ENT-ULSDCC-L3:TID:1-1-#-#-dccei-cp:61:::L3isisnl=L1;

The problem listed below was incorrectly described in the previous releases of this document. The system behaves as designed. The invalid I-15/I-16 flags are set when there is a provisioning change from one signal format to another. If the DS3 signal format is changed from M23 to C-bit, the I-16 flag is set and the PM counters will not increment until the next 15 minute bin.

• Problem 5GA-6:

If a DS3 port is provisioned for M23 signal format and a C-bit signal is connected to the input, an invalid flag I-15/I-16 will not be set and the applicable PM counters will not increment.

Workaround:

Check the provisioning data of the ports to see if it is provisioned to the proper DS3 format.

Protection Switching • Problem 5GA-27:

In a 1+1 Unidirectional Protection Group, Signal Fail (SF) has a higher priority than Lockout and Forced.

System Requirements:

A protection switch from Working to Protection (automatic or forced) can only be performed, if the protection section has no SF condition, and that an SF condition on the protection section
