HEALTH CORNERFebruary is American Heart Month. In addition to valentines and candy hearts, it is the month to raise awareness about heart health. Your amazing heart pumps 1,800 gallons of blood & beats over 100,000 times daily. Show your heart some love with simple but consistent heart healthy behaviors.Healthy fats: Your heart benefits when you regularly include omega 3 fats in your diet. Cold -water fish like salmon and tuna protect the heart by decreasing arrhythmias, blood clot formation, triglycerides, and inflammation. Eat two 4-ounce

servings per week and reduce risk of sudden death and heart disease. Check your waist size: Having excess fat in the mid-section is more harmful than fat elsewhere on the body. Abdominal fat increases your risk for heart disease, stroke and diabetes. A waist measure of 40 inches or more for men and 35 inches or more for women is too high. Get enough sleep: If you don’t get enough rest, you may be harming your heart. People who get good sleep are less likely to have heart failure and heart attacks. Improve sleep habits by not eating a big meal or drinking alcohol right before bedtime and trying to go to bed and get up at the same time every day.
