dominated and grudge has increased t ill it reached to the relat ives and neighbors. And ifwe searched for the reasons of this disagreement and this forsake, we would f ind thatthey are just t rivial reasons or things that have no value. You would f ind someoneboycotts his brother because he did not invite him to a banquet; second one boycottshis brother because he does not respond to his phone calls and third one boycotts hisbrother because he scorned one of his children! Disagreements break out and get aggravated and every one forsakes his brotherwithout knowing that this is the ambit ion of Satan and his ult imate goal. No wonder, it ishe who swore by Allah’s Glory to ent ice the children of Adam and beaut ify the evil tothem. Also, it is he who did not stop arousing conf licts between the Muslims andplant ing hatred in their chests; Allah Almighty said: {And say to My slaves (i.e. the t ruebelievers of Islamic Monotheism) that they should (only) say those words that are thebest. (Because) Shaitan (Satan) verily, sows disagreements among them. Surely,Shaitan (Satan) is to man a plain enemy.} [Surat Al-Isrâ` 17:53]

- The good word: By Allah, how many t imes the good words af fected the hearts of people indisagreement! How many t imes the good words turned the disturbance into clearness, the grudge into love and the enmity into mercy. In fact , he who says the good wordobeys the order of Allah Almighty Who says: {and speak good to people [i.e. enjoinrighteousness and forbid evil, and say the truth about Muhammad, prayers and peaceof Allah be upon him]} [Surat Al-Baqarah 2:83]

83 ةرقبلا : { انسح سانلل اولوقو } Transliterat ion: waqooloo lilnnasi husnan - Fulf illing the rights of the Muslim brothers: There are great inf luences to these rights on the hearts of the believers. These rightsinclude extending greet ings to those whom you know or do not know, because it is oneof the reasons of bringing love; the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him)said: “Would I guide you to something if you did it you would love each other? Spreadgreet ings among each other” [Reported by Muslim]

ملسم هاور « مكنیب مالسلا اوشفأ متبباحت ؛ هومتلعف اذإ ءيش ىلع مكلدأ الوأ » Ibn Omar said: “Verily, I get out intending nothing but greet ing people and receiving theirgreet ings.” In fact , there is great ef fect to the greet ing beside its being a way forat t ract ing the hearts of those who are involved in disagreement. And if these rightshave been accomplished, we would never have found these conf licts anddisagreements that we see today.

- Gif ts The Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Exchange gif ts, then youwill love each other” [Declared good by Al-Albani]

ينابلألا ھنسح اوباحت » اوداھت » And he (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) also said: “If a t rot ter or shoulder (of alamb) is gif ted to me, I would have accepted it ” [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

يراخبلا هاور تلبقل » عارذ وأ عارك يلإ يدھأ ول » Actually, this indicates that the Prophet cared for present ing the gif ts even if they weresimple things in the eyes of people. Indeed, gif ts have great ef fect in removing hearts’turbidity and discordance. - Happy mien and cheerful and smile: How many persons you have loved although you know nothing about them but theirbeing cheerful have happy mien. Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Prophet(prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) never saw me but he smiled at my face.” - Avoiding suspicion: Allah Almighty said about avoiding suspicion, which He called it ‘sin’: {O you whobelieve! Avoid much suspicion} [Surat Al-Hujurât 49:12]

12 تارجحلا : { نظلا نم اریثك اوبنتجا اونمآ نیذلا اھیأ ای } Transliterat ion: Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo ijtaniboo katheeran mina alththanni Allah Almighty did not say ‘avoid lit t le suspicion’ because suspicion is many not lit t le.Indeed, it is one of the things that spoiled the relat ions between Muslims and cloudedthe clearness of their cordiality and planted hatred and grudge in their hearts. Actually, how many quick judgment led to hatred and enmity are followed by regret because ofits being just conjecture can be of no avail against the t ruth. Then, it would be dif f icultto restore the same cordiality that was there. - Having dif ferent characterist ics: Remember that when Allah created the creat ion, He created them with dif ferentcharacterist ics, minds and behaviors. If the person knew that, he would deal with peopleaccording to it . Surly, this needs perfect understanding and wisdom accompanied withpat ience, kindness and leniency. - Forgiving people and helping them: Indeed, this is one of the greatest things of purify the hearts and clearing it . Allahordered the creditor to be pat ient if the debtor could not pay; surly, this is help andsupport ; Allah Almighty said: {And if the debtor is in a hard t ime (has no money), thengrant him t ime t ill it is easy for him to repay, but if you remit it by way of charity, that isbetter for you if you did but know} [Surat Al-Baqarah 2:280],

Transliterat ion: Wain kana thoo AAusrat in fanathiratun ila maysarat in waantasaddaqoo khayrun lakum in kuntum taAAlamoona and the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) narrated to us that a manfrom among the rich people of the children of Israel used to give loan to the people, and used to say to his servants, ‘If the debtor is poor, forgive him, so that Allah mayforgive us.’ So when he met Allah (af ter his death), Allah forgave him because of that .Everyone should know that He Almighty is the Most Generous and Munif icent; thegenerosity of all creatures equals nothing if it is compared to His Generosity. AllahAlmighty said in the Qudsi Hadith: “O My servants, if the f irst and the last among you, including your men and jinn, have been gathered in one valley and then asked me (togive them) and I gave every one of them what he asked, this would decrease nothing ofMy dominion but like what the needle takes from the ocean.” [Reported by Muslim]

- Remembering the defects: Man should remember his own defects, because this incites caring for them and beingready for standing between the Hands of the Compeller (the Exalted the Glorious) tobe asked about what his hands, legs, hearing, limbs and eyes have done. It is shame fora man to be busy with the defects of someone else although he himself is indulged inwhat is worse. Ibn Hibban said: “He who looked for the defects of people andoverlooked his own defects, his heart would get blind and his body would get t ired andhe would not see his own defects. Indeed, the lowest man is the one who blamespeople for things he himself has them.”

- Loving good to Muslims: This is proof for the goodness of the heart and being away from envy and grudge; theProphet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “None of you will have faith t illhe loves for his brother what he loves for himself .” [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

يراخبلا هاور « ھسفنل بحی ام ھیخأل بحی ىتح مكدحأ نمؤی «ال Ibn ‘Abbâs (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “When I hear that rain fell upon one ofthe Muslim countries, I be happy because of that ; although, by Allah I have neithersheep nor t rees in it .” - Beware of talebearers and backbiters: Never allow a talebearer or backbiter to spoil your relat ionship with your brother.Indeed, how many relat ions have been spoiled by such people, especially if they foundears ready to listen to them. Al-Ghazali said: “When a person bears a tale to someone, the listener should do sixthings: 1- Not to believe him, because the talebearer is unfaithful.2- To prevent him from tale bearing and tell him that this is evil.3- To hate him for the sake of Allah, because Allah hates such person.4- Not to suspect his absent brother.5- Not to spy on others because of what he heard.6- Not to accept to himself what he prevented the talebearer f rom (i.e. not to say ‘Xsaid to me so and so’).

Actually, we would like to add to the previous six things praying to whom talked aboutyou, because this is the characterist ic of the chosen slaves of Allah. It is narrated that itwas said to one of the righteous forefathers “X says so and so about you” whereuponhe said: “I will enrage the one who ordered him.” People asked: “Who ordered him?” hereplied: “Satan,” then he raised his hands to pray for him. - Religion is advice: Surly, there is great ef fect for advice in correct ing the mistakes and declaring the right .And because of the greatness of advice, the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah beupon him) took pledge of allegiance from his companions on giving advice. Jarir ibnAbdullah said: “I gave pledge of allegiance to the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah beupon him) on the observance of prayer, payment of Zakat and giving advice for everyMuslim.” [Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Theet iquettes of the adviser include not to give it in public, to use kind words, to introduceintroduct ion indicates sincerity and well-wishing and to specify the appropriate t ime. Onthe other hand, the advised person should accept the advice and not to be haughty orsuspect that the adviser seeks pride or such things, which are inspired by Satan. - The best sinners are those who repent: The Muslim should help the others and forgive them and know that every man is asinner but the best sinners are those who repent; Allah Almighty said: {And if Allâh were

It is narrated thata man who drank wine was lashed between the hands of the Prophet (prayers andpeace of Allah be upon him) and one of the companions said to him, “May Allahdisgrace him that he is brought here of ten!?!” Thereupon the Prophet (prayers andpeace of Allah be upon him) said, “Do not help Satan against your (Muslim) brother.”[Reported by Al-Bukhari]

يراخبلا هاور « مكیخأ ىلع ناطیشلا نوع اونوكت «ال And he said about the man who was lashed for drinking wine: “Do not curse him, for byAllah, I know for he loves Allah and His Messenger.” [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

يراخبلا هاور « ھلوسرو بحی هللا ھنأ الإ تملع ام هللاوف هونعلت ؛ «ال - Verifying t ransmit ted news: You should be sure about the veracity of the news that you hear about your brothers. In fact , how many t imes a man made his mind af ter listening to one part without

listening to the second part . Indeed, it is injust ice to judge your brothers before beingsure about the veracity of what you heard; Allah Almighty said: {O you who believe! If aFâsiq (liar - evil person) comes to you with any news, verify it , lest you should harmpeople in ignorance, and af terwards you become regret ful for what you have done}[Surat Al-Hujurât 49:6]

Moreover, itis one of the reasons that make the hearts turn against each other; Allah Almighty said:{O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it may be that the lat terare better than the former. Nor let (some) women scoff at other women, it may be thatthe lat ter are better than the former. Nor defame one another, nor insult one anotherby nicknames. How bad is it to insult one’s brother af ter having Faith [i.e. to call yourMuslim brother (a faithful believer) as: "O sinner", or "O wicked"]. And whosoever doesnot repent, then such are indeed Zâlimûn (wrong-doers, etc.)} [Surat Al-Hujurât 49:11]

khayran minhunna wala talmizoo anfusakum walatanabazoo bialalqabi bisa alismualfusooqu baAAda aleemani waman lam yatub faolaika humu alththalimoona Also, it is one of the signs of pride, not to ment ion mocking the creat ion which indicatesmocking the Creator. In fact , Allah measures people by their belief ; Allah Almighty said:{Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwâ [i.e.he is one of the Muttaqûn (the pious)} [Surat Al-Hujurât 49:13]

13 تارجحلا : { مكاقتأ هللا دنع مكمركأ نإ } Transliterat ion: inna akramakum AAinda Allahi atqakum And the Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “Verily Allahdoes not look to your bodies nor to your faces but He looks to your hearts and deeds.”[Reported by Muslim] This also includes mocking the abilit ies and cert if icates or thenat ionality and home or cracking jokes or any way of mocking.

ملسم هاور « مكلامعأو مكبولق ىلإ رظنی نكلو مكلاومأو ، مكروص ىلإ رظنی نإ هللا ال » - Intercession for a good cause It is one of the great reasons of cordiality and love between the interceder and towhom the intercession is made; Allah Almighty said: {Whosoever intercedes for a goodcause will have the reward thereof} [Surat An-Nisâ` 4:85]

85 ءاسنلا : { اھنم بیصن ھل نكی ةنسح ةعافش عفشی نم } Transliterat ion: Man yashfaAA shaf aAAatan hasanatan yakun lahu naseebun minha

Page 12: Ways Of Purifying The Hearts

Actually, this is restricted to having it in lawful thing. However; if intercession was forunlawful thing, such as having the propert ies of others or t ransgressing their rights, itwould be unlawful intercession, because Allah Almighty says: {and whosoeverintercedes for an evil cause will have a share in its burden} [Surat An-Nisâ` 4:85]

85 ءاسنلا : { اھنم لفك ھل نكی ةئیس ةعافش عفشی نمو } Transliterat ion: waman yashfaAA shaf aAAatan sayyiatan yakun lahu kif lun minha Also, among the Ahadith that indicate the excellence of intercession is the saying ofthe Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him): “Intercede and you willreceive the reward for it ; and Allah will bring about what He will through the tongue ofHis Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him).” [Reported by Al-Bukhari]

يراخبلا هاور « ءاش ام ملسو ھیلع ىلص هللا ھیبن ناسل ىلع يضقیو هللا اورجؤت ، اوعفشا » - Unself ishness and giving priority to the brothers over the selves: Indeed, this is an indicat ion to the strength of belief and emphasis to love in the hearts. Moreover, it is one of the greatest ways for expelling miserliness and st inginess fromthe heart . It is Reported in the two Sahihs that the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allahbe upon him) praised the Ash’aries (t ribe of Abu Musa Al-Ash’ari) by saying: “When theAsh’aries run short of provisions in the campaigns or run short of food for their childrenin Medina, they collect whatever is with them in a piece of cloth and then partakeequally f rom one vessel. Therefore, they are f rom me and I am from them.” [Reported byAl-Bukhari]

- Consultat ion and seeking the opinions of the brothers: How many persons went in the straight path and gained the good that they seek andwish, because of having honest consultant. Furthermore, this is one of the reasonsthat make the hearts love each other and go in the right direct ion; Allah Almighty said:{and consult them in the af fairs} [Surat Al-‘Imrân 3:159]

159 نارمع : لآ { رمألا يف مھرواشو } Transliterat ion: washawirhum fee alamri Al-Hassan and Ad-Dahâk said: “Allah Almighty did not order His Prophet to consult(others) because of needing their opinion; rather He wanted them to know theexcellence of consultat ion and to make it example to the nat ion af ter the Prophet.” Actually, not seeking consultat ion indicates being arrogant with one’s own opinion;someone said: “He who admires his own opinion would not seek consultat ion, and hewho hold fast to his own opinion is far away from the right ful opinion.” Also, theconsultant should be honest in his counsel and deal with the af fairs of his brother as ifthey were his own; because the Prophet (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said:“None of you will have faith t ill he loves for his brother what he loves for himself .”[Reported by Al-Bukhari]

- Not to reveal secrets: You should not reveal the secrets which are entrusted to you, because it is one of thereasons of spoiling the relat ions between the brothers. Ar-Raghib said: “Revealing thesecret is an indicat ion to lack of pat ience and constrict ion of chest these are thecharacterist ics of weak men, children and women.” Al-Hassan said: “It is betrayal toreveal your brother’s secret .” One day, Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) became late for being busy with fulf illingone of the af fairs of the Messenger of Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him). When he came back to his mother, she asked him, ‘O my son, where was you?’ and heanswered her by saying ‘I was fulf illing some affair to the Messenger of Allah’. Sheasked him, ‘what is this af fair?’ and he replied by saying, ‘it is secret ,’ whereupon shesaid, ‘never reveal the secret of the Messenger of Allah to anybody.’ Anas said to hisson, Thabit : ‘O Thabit , if I were to reveal it to someone, I would have revealed it to you,Thabit .’ Consider how he guarded the secret of the Messenger of Allah (prayers andpeace of Allah be upon him) and did not reveal it to his mother then to his son! Thisindicates caring for guarding the secret and keeping it preserved for a long t ime. - Never desert your Muslim brother: Remember the consequence of desert ing and boycott ing among Muslims. Verily, thereare great texts, for prohibit ing desert ion, that indicate the danger of it . The Messengerof Allah (prayers and peace of Allah be upon him) said: “It is not lawful for a Muslim todesert his brother more than three (i.e. days).” [Reported by Al-Bukhari],

Andprayers and peace of Allah be upon our prophet Muhammad and his family andcompanions.
