PROCESS DESCRIPTION

The WCC is characterized by the WCC calciner & Mixing Chamber both installed in the lower part of a conventional Suspension Preheater(SP).

The raw meal fed into the top of the preheater flows down while exchanging heat with the mixed gas from the WCC calciner and the kiln. It is then collected by cyclone C 3

and fed into the WCC calciner which accelerates decarbonation.

The raw meal exchanges heat in the mixing chamber with the exhaust gas from the kiln and is then collected by cyclone C . 4

During this process, the raw meal is further calcined.

The gas temperature distribution in the preheater is similar to conventional SP process, but the kiln feed is highly decarbonated to 85-95%.

Therefore heat consumption in the kiln is much lower, resulting in less thermal load, and the kiln size can be reduced or capacity of the kiln can be increased.

GENERAL ARRANGEMENT

WCC consists mainly of the WCC Burner, the WCC calciner and the mixing chamber.

WCC Burner : It is used to initiate the burning process, mainly during start up of WCC calciner and helps in an efficient coal burning.

WCC Calciner : The combustion in the WCC calciner is efficient, even at low excess air, because it occurs under an atmosphere of rich O concentration hot air recouped from the 2

cooler without being diluted by exhaust gas from the kiln.The raw meal is fed into the WCC calciner simultaneously with hot air recouped from the cooler and is calcined rapidly in the swirling flames.

Mixing Chamber : The mixing chamber is designed to mix the gas-raw meal mixture from the WCC calciner with the kiln gas effectively and to accelerate the heat exchange. In the mixing chamber, the temperature of the gas and the raw meal becomes almost the same.

The WCC system offers the following advantages:

Small kiln size with larger production capacity

Increase of kiln capacity achieved by high decarbonation

Reduced heat consumption

Improved heat exchange ratio as compared withconventional suspension preheater kilns

Improved operating stability and controllability

WCC system is lower in heat consumption compared with conventional suspension preheater kiln.

Even low grade coal of the 4,000 kcal/kg can be burnt effectively in the WCC system (WCC burner, NCC calciner and mixing chamber) with the same efficiency as oil burning. Active combustion takes place in the WCC calciner by swirling high temperature air from the cooler and unburnt coal, if any, is entirely burnt in the mixing chamber.
