Mission Statement The Indian Head Church of God exists to glorify God with Christ centered worship, Biblically oriented discipleship and Holy Spirit directed evangelism and mission. There are ushers to help with the seating. * Hand sanitizer is available in the foyer and at the pews. * There is no greeting with the shaking of hands. * An offering box is placed in the back of the church, as the ushers will not be passing the plates for the offering. * There is no Wee Worshipers or Junior Church during the 11:00 worship service until further notice. * Childrens Sunday School will not begin until a later date that will be announced. * Masks are to be used at your own personal discretion. * You may enter thru the double doors on either side of the church, and the back door under the canopy. We ask that you do not enter thru the side office door. The worship service continues to be streamed live on our Facebook page at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Update: The Adult Sunday School Classes will begin on July 5 at 9:45 a.m. There is still no date set for the childrens classes. We traveled to Haiti in February. We were able to make it safely to our house in Borel, but once there our travels were very limited due to gang violence. We did manage to visit some local churches. We had the privilege to teach a Bible Confer-ence to pastors and wives. We are now back in the U.S. and thankful for the time God allowed us to be in Haiti before the lock-down. Operation

Christmas Child Shoeboxes

We will continue to collect items throughout the next year for Operation Child. There

is a box in both foyers for these items. Besides what is asked to donate each month, you may also may also put any of these items in at any time during the year.

July - Hygiene items: combs, brushes, soap, washcloths

On the bulletin board on the Indian Head side foyer are tags with items listed that are needed for

our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes that the church fills. If you would like to participate, please take a tag and write your name on the paper beside the number(s) you have taken. When you have purchased your items, you may bring them, along with your tag(s) attached and put in the box in either foyer.

We encourage you to support the shoe boxes. There are quite a few tags that are not taken. You can pick up one, or call Denise Pritts for rags and she can tell you what needs to be purchased. If you would rather donate money towards the items and would like someone to shop for them, please contact Denise Pritts.

The money is used for postage to send the Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. Each tube holds $20 worth of quarters. That will send 2 shoeboxes. The tubes are in the foyer on the Indian Head side and also in the Church Office, or you may contact Denise Pritts 724-455-2056 or email [email protected] They are also available in the Church Office.

Starting July 5, we will hold a Penny War for “Shoes that Grow” to put in our shoeboxes. There will be two containers in the back of the Sanctuary for four Sundays. One will be marked men and one will be marked women.

On the first Sunday, JULY 5, all PENNIES in your container will count to the good and anything other than pennies will count against your team (so you can sabotage your opponent by placing anything other than pennies in their container. $$$ Bills work great for this.

The second week, JULY 12, will be NICKELS;

The third week, JULY 19, will be DIMES;

The fourth week, JULY 26, will be QUARTERS.

These totals will be counted weekly and updated status will be placed on the bulletin board in the Indian Head side foyer. All monies raised will be used to purchase “Shoes that Grow” to place in our shoeboxes. The cost of the shoes are $20.00 each.

We will be collecting filled shoe-boxes on JULY 26. If you would like to get a jump start on your boxes, now is the time! Please take a box and fill it, and return by Sunday, July 26. We have a goal of 500 boxes this year. We would love to see 100 boxes collected in July.

If you can’t shop, you can send a donation of $30 and we will shop for you. Any questions, please contact Denise Pritts or the Church Office.

We implemented our electronic giving in February of this year!

When we launched the electronic giving program in February we never could have imagined what the future held for our church. We are thankful to report since we suspended our in person services, the online giving has an approxi-mate total of $6,600. Electronic giving allows the church to remotely collect donations and further our mission. Thank you to all who are supporting the church through these difficult times with your generous donations. Notes from the Ad Council meeting on June 15…

*There will be Holy Communion on Sunday, July 5.

*A reminder that there will not be a Saturday evening service on July 4.

*The adult Sunday School classes will start again July 5.

*The children’s classes are not ready to be started at the present time.

*We will continue church services as is for now. At the next Ad Council meeting on July 20, church services and getting the kids back to Sunday School will be reviewed at that time for any updated changes.

*We will be Facebook live stream-ing our VBS “Power Lab” program on July 12-16.

*The oil tanks in the youth room need to be replaced and that project will start June 17.

*There will be no port-a-potty in our picnic area this season.

*Christian Education Commission will be making a donation to Camp Sonrise Mountain since there was no camp for the youth this year.

*Penny Wars, that was previously scheduled for May and then post-poned, will start in July. The money raised will go to purchase “shoes that grow” for the shoe-boxes.

*Christmas in July will be held for collecting shoeboxes. We hope you will fill a shoebox and return it by July 26.

*Hoping to plan a mission trip next year to New Mexico where missionaries John and Toni Thumma are located.

*Our annual Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, August 15.

*Approved to seal the cracks in the parking lot.

*There were 147 vaccines given at the Rabies Clinic.

RIGHTS & RESPONSIBILITIES

We are living in some very chaotic times. There is rioting that is going on across the country, people exercising their right to protest. Then there is the pandemic, resulting in social distancing, shutdowns, and what some people perceive to be ‘lockups’.

The divisions are great in our country and also around the world. The insistence on rights and freedom seem to have trumped reason and responsibility. The instruction of my seventh grade Civics teacher planted a simple statement in my mind: “my rights end where your nose begins.” That saying has been worded different ways, but the principle remains the same.

The Founders of our nation sought freedom from tyranny expressed by King George of England. They recognized that our rights are not granted by a king or any other government. “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness—That to secure these Rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just Powers from the Consent of the Governed”.

These are great and powerful words. Truths that we should live by, and we have in many ways throughout our history, but not perfectly. To live with rights also means we bear responsibilities. Christians especially need to keep this in mind.

The Old Testament law notes that loving our neighbor is second to loving God. Jesus tells us in the Gospels that we are to love our neighbors. The epistles bear out that the demonstration of our love for God is seen in our loving one another and loving others. This is not the insistence upon rights but rather the responsibility of God’s people to look out for others.

The apostle Paul wrote: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” [Galatians 5:1] It could be that the insistence upon individual rights without personal responsibilities becomes a form of bondage. The apostle Paul noted: “‘Everything is permissible’ - but not everything is beneficial. ‘Everything is permissible’ - but not everything is constructive. Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. [1 Corinthians 10:23-24]

As we approach our nation’s Independence Day, while still faced with the uncertainty of a pandemic virus and a government’s far-reaching response, protests and riots for racial and social justice in many places, and a divisive climate throughout the world, we should remember that there can be no real freedom without responsibility.

While you think about the meaning of the saying, “my rights end where your nose begins”, perhaps we should add, “and my responsibilities begin where my nose ends.”
