To dance Argentine Tango requires improvisation between leader and follower. These “unspoken

conversations” require connection with one’s partner and with the music. This class is for couples who would

like to work on their technique and practice connection and improvisation on the social dance floor. Each pair

will dance together throughout the series, practicing connection, improvised movement, musicality, as well as

etiquette and floor craft. Class size is limited to no more than four to five couples. A significant portion of each

90-minute session will be devoted to open dancing, so that each couple can receive individual attention as they

develop their own style of improvisation. At the conclusion of this series, couples will perform together at the

Dance 4 Wellness holiday party. Prerequisite: Approval of the instructor.

Bram will take you on a journey that will provide the knowhow to unlock the mystery of why those

“@#%^$&*” judges just don’t acknowledge my brilliance on the dance floor.

This 4 week group class will delve deep into the mind of a judge. Using state of the art technology, we will

pick apart routines, theory of motion, what catches and holds the viewers (and judges) eyes, scoring, and

what you can do to bring your competition standing up a level. The series design is to increase your

awareness of your own dance and presentation skills and how it’s perceived.

Most know the basic “3 T’s of Judging, Timing, Teamwork, and Technique”, yet how and when does,

Showmanship, Musical Interpretation, Content (Contrast, Variety and Choreography), come into play.

We will also talking about:

Timing: When is one? How can I tell that I am on time every time?

Teamwork: Does my lead motivate my follower into body flight?

Technique: Is there a triple some where or an anchor for good measure?

We will debate some age old question like: (I can see now, that I will get in trouble)

o What is West Coast Swing?

o Should we have peer judging?

o What is West Coast Swing music?

o How to handle defeat and gain vast knowledge at the same time!

o How and when to approach a judge asking them for their opinion of your performance?

This class will rock! I have been wanting to teach this one for a while now and with so many competitions in

October and November; Boogie Bay the Bay, Paradise , Halloween Swingthing, US Open: and these are just the

major California competitions. Then there are the local club competitions as well.

Costs: $60 for the series or $17 per class (you can drop in on this series)

Venue: Classes are in Tarzana, along the 101 at Tampa (between Reseda and Tampa)
