Role of Communication Skills in Our Daily Life
Communication is an art which helps an individual to express or transfer his thoughts,
feelings, messages, ideas and imagination. Communication can be verbal or Non-verbal (which
includes gestures, postures, and sign language). It is a pre installed or a natural existing function
present in every individual to show his existence and to fulfill his desires and needs. Thus
importance of communication cannot be underestimated. It plays an essential role in every aspect
of life of an individual whether it is related to his personal life or corporate world; he always
needs to develop his communication skills to make progress in life.
The importance of communication skill can be understood with the help of following
schematic figure depicting the impact of this elegant art on every aspect of life.

Professional Life
One of the most important eras of communication skills is our professional lives. The
lack of effective communication skills has a negative impact on the professional life of a person.
To understand their importances consider an example of a teacher.
A teacher who has effective communication skills can easily motivate the students; can
inspire them to learn and to participate in class activities. Better communication leads to better
understanding between the teacher and the students and thus making a comfortable and relaxed
environment for learning. The teacher needs to be able to identity dormant participants and
encourage them to come forth with their views without seeming overly patronizing. This is only
possible when he has a grip on communication skills.
Similarly, effective communication skills are an invaluable asset to a salesperson
because with these skills only he will be able to assess the needs of the buyer and suggesting a
product that would meet the buyer's requirements. Without good communication skills a
salesperson cannot impress his clients for his product. If he impresses the clients by his
communication, then client will not place his order in any other organization. Thus a salesman
with flair of words can easily convince a buyer about the multitude of features the product has to
offer.
Enhance Relationships
Good communication results in good relations with others. If one can effectively
communicate, then other people know what he need and want, and he can let them know his
feelings. Due to effective communication skills there will be no misunderstanding or
misconception between the people which actually creates a trustful environment. These skills
prevent arguments related to feelings of others. If one can explain his thoughts and feelings, then
he would not misunderstand his partner.
Business Management
Effective communication skills play a vital role in business management. Consider a
member of an organization who possesses every ability to make his company prosper i.e.
brilliant ideas for company growth and expansion, product development, or groundbreaking
innovations but he has no command on communication skills will result in wastage of his
abilities and capabilities. Because if he cannot get those ideas across to management, existing
customers, and clients, those ideas will come to nothing and, in the end, get the organization
absolutely nowhere.
Similarly these skills are equally important for a superintendent who interacts almost
daily with managers, subordinate employees, club owners, supervisors, green committees and
others. Usually promotions come to those employees of an organization who can communicate
well. Thus survival in business without effective communication skills is like a fish surviving out
of water for a few seconds.
Leadership
Leadership in an organization or anywhere is all about effective and good communication
skills. Because if leader understands the caliber of the members of his team then he would give
them responsibilities which they can easily perform thus it enhances the performance of the
organization. A leader with good communication skills can easily motivate and inspire the
members of his team to accomplish their task successfully.
Good communication helps the leader to think better. In order to communicate
effectively, he has to think ahead and organize his thoughts. This helps him learn how to
organize, and how to plan ahead. Human interaction is complex and can be difficult to
understand. This is largely due to the fact that each individual possesses unique values, beliefs
and attitudes. So what is important to you may not be important to some another person. Now
here the job of a true leader comes when he has to create an environment efficient enough to
provide space to every one to work efficiently. This is only possible with good communication
skills.
Self Esteem.
Good communication skills give an individual self esteem and self confidence. Usual
interactions of people had usually led to an argument “I don’t understand you!” This is a result of
ineffective communication skills which most of the times lead to frustration between the two
individuals. But people with effective communication skills are more confident, because they
know that they can tell other people exactly what they need to, and they know that they
understand those people better.
Seeking a Job
Nowadays good and effective communication skills are the basic and the foremost
requirement of every job. The single most repeated phrase in the qualification requirement is
“Candidates with good communication skills”. Almost no exception is made in any job category
about the need for good communication skills, in any industry.
This is one of the most important requirements because good communication always
passes information along. If one can effectively communicate, then people understand him much
better, and whatever information he is trying to tell them his colleagues get across without being
misunderstood. In business, this can prevent mistakes from being made by people who thought
you said something else.
Written Communication
Apart from oral communication, written communication has also the same
Importance in daily life. A simple advertisement board carrying a well written message manages
to hold attention of people. If a person has good written communication skills then he can easily
convey his message through his technical writings. It is actually effective written communication
skills along with the power of words which can draw the attention of a people.
Efficient Team Work
Team Communication is the key factor which makes a team efficient. A team or group in
which everyone is involved, giving opinions, feedback, asking questions, verifying what they
went over and what their specific role is in the task will always be more efficient and accurate in their
work as compared to that group in which the members didn’t communicate and couldn’t make a
decision on anything.
To have a team that not only enjoys working together but also succeeds in their work
always put communication first. The learning team toolkit states that teams were “created so that
instead of doing a task ourselves, they believe that members of a team working together can
accomplish more than the same number of individuals working separately.” Thus to accomplish
this goal effective communication is required among the team members.
Peaceful Communities
Good and effective communication makes peaceful communities. If individuals can
effectively communicate, then they can get along better with their neighbors - in their town or
city, in their country, and in the world. Most wars are caused by ministers not communicating
effectively and not being able to negotiate with each other.
Every day, in many ways, we communicate with other people. Sometimes it is verbally,
other times it is through the written word, and we even do it non-verbally through what we call
our body language. Thus a person cannot survive in this world without effective communication
skills as directly or indirectly they had a very strong influence in every aspect of our lives.
