We will leave everybody and everything behind to go and hear what we are called for. As Christians, God has called each one of us by name to do His will and be followers of Jesus Christ. On this third Sunday in Ordinary time, the readings describe how our Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled the prophet s expectations of his people. The Gospel of Matthew presents us that the Light, liberty and unity of which Isaiah spoke about had finally appeared with the coming of Jesus. The humble Jesus had begun his public ministry after the arrest of John the Baptist who baptised and witnessed to him, was a moment of transition for Jesus. The Messiah whom all the prophets had announced, to bring us from the darkness of sin into the Light of God by calling us to repentance and conversion. Jesus had begun to call his first disciples as he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, when he withdrew from his hometown of Nazareth and settled in Capernaum. We are told that Jesus had begun calling his disciples and preaching around the Sea of Galilee to fulfil his mission as a human being with divine power. Jesus had found Simon Peter and his brother Andrew who later left their nets and followed him. Then, Jesus saw the other two brothers James and John who also left their nets and father behind and followed our Lord. Jesusinvitation, follow mewas responded positively by the disciples. Why did not Jesus Christ go to the Scribes, Priests, Pharisees, Sadducees and other groups with the greatest learning and status? The answer is Simple. Because the fishermen are patient, humble and teachable people. From this story, the fishermen leaving everybody and everything behind makes us to ponder the call of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are called into various vocations and ministries to evangelise. Are we ready to answer that call of Jesus? Are we able to respond to the call of Jesus follow me”? Therefore, the message for us is clear that Jesus is continuing to call us to share his mission. Sunday, 26 January Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - Year A

Our Parish Mission Statement Mary, Queen of the Family Parish is a welcoming, diverse, multicultural, Catholic community.

We seek: to live, teach and share the joy of the Gospel; to grow as disciples of Jesus through prayer, witness and action and to respond to the needs of the family in the Blacktown community and beyond.

When somebody calls us by name among many, it is always a great honour. It shows our true identity. Then, we will respond to the call with the expectation to hear and share the news. We will leave everybody and everything behind to go and hear what we are called for. As Christians, God has called each one of us by name to do His will and be followers of Jesus Christ. On this third Sunday in Ordinary time, the readings describe how our Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled the prophet’s expectations of his people. Jesus’ invitation, “follow me” was responded positively by the disciples. “Are we ready to answer that call of Jesus? Are we able to respond to the call of Jesus “follow me”? Therefore, the message for us is clear that Jesus is continuing to call us to share his mission.

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON: Cf. Ps 95:1,6 O sing a new song to the Lord; sing to the Lord, all the earth. In his presence are majesty and splendour, strength and honour in his holy place.

FIRST READING: Is 8:23-9:3 RESPONSORIAL PSALM: Ps 26:1, 4, 13-14. R. v.1 The Lord is my light and my salvation.

SECOND READING: 1 Cor 1:10-13, 17

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION: Mt 4:23

Alleluia, alleluia! Jesus preached the Good News of the

Kingdom and healed all who were sick . Alleluia!

GOSPEL: Mt 4:12-23 Hearing that John had been arrested Jesus went back to Galilee, and leaving Nazareth he went and settled in Capernaum, a lakeside town on the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali. In this way the prophecy of Isaiah was to be fulfilled:

Land of Zebulun! Land of Naphtali! Way of the sea on the far side of Jordan, Galilee of the nations! The people that lived in darkness has seen a great light; on those who dwell in the land and shadow of death a light has dawned.

From that moment Jesus began his preaching with the message, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.’ As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon, who was called Peter, and his brother Andrew; they were making a cast in the lake with their net, for they were fishermen. And he said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.’ And they left their nets at once and followed him.

Going on from there he saw another pair of brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they were in their boat with their father Zebedee, mending their nets, and he called them. At once,

leaving the boat and their father, they followed him.

He went round the whole of Galilee teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness among the people.

COMMUNION ANTIPHON: Cf. Ps 33:6 Look toward the Lord and be radiant; let your faces not be

abashed.
